Free Sync 2 or G-sync question

So - I have a 144hz curved Samsung screen I just picked up for cheap. It is a 32 inch 1440p screen. I set it next to my 27 inc Gsync 165Hz gaming monitor. I run dual 1080 TI in sli. I mainly play Destiny 2 and Overwatch.

Here is my question - Does the Gsync or Freesync even matter if your frame rate never dips below 60? The reason I ask is my 144hz bigger screen with no sync technology whatsoever looks every bit as good any may expensive gsync monitor. No tearing, flickering etc.
 
If you don't play emulators/run old games, it doesn't matter if you can hit your target framerate.
 
Yes, it still matters.

For example, if your fps meter says 60fps average, not every single frame is going to render at exactly 16.6ms. Some frames may be slightly shorter or slightly longer.

With G-Sync/FreeSync, they can still update from frames that take fractions of ms longer without stutter or frame tearing.

However, if you are getting above 60fps *minimum* at all times, then there will not be a noticeable difference.
 
Thanks for the gsync demo too - with that I found that if I turned on V Sync - which I never turn on - I got butter smoof performance. I set my Destiny 2 to vsync on max frame rate of 144 and again silky smoof. I still have my 27 inch gsync ips but I am enjoying the curved 32 inch experience gaming.
 
If you don't use V-Sync, the FPS can go outside the G-Sync range, meaning it won't be working.

What you should do is disable V-Sync in the game, force V-Sync on in Nvidia control panel, and then use RivaTuner (or similar) to cap framerate at 2 below your refresh rate (142 in your case).

Those should be the best settings.

Not only that, but V-Sync with G-Sync ensures that each frame is only presented when the display is ready for the best tear-free experience. Without V-Sync you can still get occasional judder.
