Odd "No internet Issue"

My son's PC can connect to our wifi but has no internet. I did all the normal things, tried to release the ip and renew and no go. I reset the TCP/IP

The odd part is he can set up a personal hotspot on his phone, turn off cellular data and connect to his phone which is connected to the same wifi and has internet.

I removed any parental controls on the ASUS router in case something was causing it and still nothing. Connects fine to the 5g or 2.4g wifi but has no internet.

Everything else in the house is working fine. What should I try next?

I was going to remove the drivers but if he can connect to the hotspot then that isn't it.

Is it IP related? So he's using the IP from the phone and that's why it works?

Troubleshooter comes up with "
Wi-Fi doesn’t have a valid IP configuration"

make sure your tcp/ip settings are on auto, then tell windows to forget the network and rescan and connect again.

I have a PC that just does this occasionally, I believe it's a windows 10 issue (in my case at least). I try everything every time, disabling the adapter, updating the driver, multiple reboots. misc ip auto \ static changes, creating a secondary SSID. Eventually it randomly decides to start working again and never for any consistent reason. I tried replacing the wireless card and it does it less now but still happens occasionally.

This is the first time it's happened so perhaps a recent Win 10 update. These sort of things are very frustrating. You'd think it would have to be IP related since going through the phone hotspot (connected to the same wifi) works fine.

check for new drivers or maybe try rolling them back

My machine, connected by ethernet had no access last night. After buying new cables and troubleshooting it the fix ended up being unplug the router..No idea why this worked since wifi for most every device was working.

I failed at tech support 101 on this one....
