BioWare's new IP: Anthem

Which would be May by there road map....and I'm very doubtful they are going to make it to May or actually deliver new fun content in May.

if you really think that BioWare is going to drop support by May then you don't know how games work...the game needs at least 6 months to grow...the fact that everyone wants Anthem to be 100% perfect at launch is laughable and tells you more about their EA-hate...Division 1 and Destiny took a year to 'fix'...and don't tell me Anthem should have learned from those games and been 100% perfect...by that rationale Division 2 should be flawless at launch and after playing the beta I can tell you it isn't

my main point is that people have unrealistic expectations for this game compared to similar ones and for some reason don't think anything will be fixed...BioWare is constantly patching the game...they fixed the Lvl 1 weapons bug within what 2 days?...the haters are probably upset that they fixed it so quickly because they can't complain about it anymore...let go of your EA-hate and give the game longer then 3 weeks to thrive...seriously you do realize that the game has only been out 3 weeks right?...the game has flaws but it's potential outweighs its flaws...

Dude it should have at least been 50% at launch....being kinda it was 30%. You are still missing the point, there's no end game, zero nadda. May is the best case for it, and yes I'm doubtful they'll be around in May....because their sales have sucked, and the 1 month Origin subs are coming up for renewal and god knows those are probably going to tank too or see little continual play.

Looks like I can interact with things this morning and my performance is way better, too. Maybe I got on a bad server yesterday or something? At this point I do still want to complete the core portion of this game.

I got really bad game mechanics where my lightning spell won't work simply fizzles.

I'm still runnning into pretty heavy performance issues at times. I'm playing in 4K with vsync on an details set to medium. I'm at a solid 60fps most of the time, but occasionally I'll end up in a fight with water effects, 4-5 enemies, and smoke where things plummet and go into borderline slow motion. Not sure what my actual FPS are, but I'd guess it has to be in the 20's. We're talking worse than when the consoles bog down. That seems pretty odd for a 2080Ti and this is the only game where anything close to that happens. Drops into the 50's are normal, but this is excessive. I'm still wondering if this is a triple buffering thing or something similar. I don't just get drops, I get DROPS.

Game isn't optimized for shit and has HDR implementation issues.

1. Do absurd and unacceptable things over and over as an industry

2. Establish new standards

3. Keep doing the same old shit

4. ".the game needs at least 6 months to grow...the fact that everyone wants Anthem to be 100% perfect at launch is laughable and tells you more about their EA-hate...Division 1 and Destiny took a year to 'fix'."

So apparently they "accidentally" made the loot tables good again and then went and reverted it, again. You know, maybe Bioware should just keep the better loot tables they accidentally give players. Those seem to actually make a lot of people happy and then when they're ripped away it pisses people off causing Bioware to need to respond and do yet another alteration to the loot tables. Just leave it alone and let players be happy with the game actually giving loot that's worth a damn.

Making the game a loot pinata will make it more broken than it already is, part of the draw to these games is the hunt for awesome loot. If it drops like candy it trivializes what little content there is and removes the thrill/excitement of getting that perfect drop.

Then maybe they should have launched with better loot in the game.

Even if they dramatically increased the loot drops, it wouldn't change too much in terms of power scaling because the vast majority of your power increases come from getting good rolls on your MW and legendary gear. Most of what drops is going to get salvaged due to terrible stat rolls. There's a post on Reddit that says it best: it's not supposed to be about chasing loot, period....it's supposed to be about chasing GOOD loot.

Try the heart of rage with those acid blobs and don't kill them (do it on easier difficulty). You can enable fps meter in origin setup to display an overlay in the game.

The idea of this game is that you can get loot but the way all of these "people" seem to describe it you only need good loot.
The idea of good loot is such a bad idea which would cripple more or less the game play experience and shorten the time for every update to come since when you have all the good loot what are you going to do wait for Bioware to implement fishing ?

A game like this are two faced they want you to stay in the Anthem environment and yet they make it so easy that the pressure on development team is their to handle all of the problem at the same time. A good example in gaming and how to do it is Asheron's Call the grind was real but the game gave you a good sense of getting used to it (later on when everything was working well they made it less of a grind). Games like Anthem have a choice either go fast paced or slow it down, the latter allows them to anticipate better on what is wrong with the game since they did not choose that pace every one is L30 already and people even before they got to L30 call it boring already.

The pace is wrong for this game. The fix now only is more content and enough variation in the content that is there already.

The backlash on EA and the way people have been exploiting Anthem just accelerated things not in Bioware favour because when much of you player base just went nuts on farming master work and legendaries can you tell them that there idiots?

Without a complete overhaul of everything tied to loot this game is going to get worse and worse. The solution is not to give in to the cry babies on reddit and follow their own plan. Those few vocal people threatening to quit the game let them go.

Yeah, the loot system is derp. I'm playing GM2 difficulty and only getting a few MC loot for each mission. There is hardly any difference between GM1 and GM2 when it comes to rewards it seems.

Okay, a couple things have seriously put me off with this game:
  1. The hub at Fort Tarsis. I am seriously getting annoyed at playing the actual game for 15 minute sessions then going back and having to listen to multiple characters rant about meaningless things for twice that amount of time, and it doesn't seem like there is a way to skip through dialog so you can at least skip through it as fast as you can read. The story seems interesting, but it is presented in such an offputting way. None of the characters involved are likeable. I should have expected it after the disaster that was ME Andromeda.
  2. Disconnects. I have tried to do two farming sessions so far to work on the freeroam objectives, and both times I have gotten disconnected after just 30 minutes. And despite what the loading screen says, you lose everything you picked up when this happens since the session itself was lost. My last trek out I collected a lot of blues and a few purples and the disconnect that happened had me seriously raging.
Maybe I'll come back to it in half a year...

I'm determined to push through and win the game as-is. There are enough redeeming things about it that have kept my interest. I find myself running around shield bashing enemies WAY more than shooting anything, so I don't really care about loot all that much.

My wife got a free copy of this with a new video card so I'm hopeful that future updates will make this game better with others. Right now it's better as a solo endeavor on normal difficulty.

I finished the main campaign without any major issues but now I'm getting a bug in the Strongholds where I get trapped behind the barrier and can't proceed...annoying...

Trigger auto zoning , just run away :) you pop back in ...

you mean move away from the group where the warning triggers?...I thought I did that but I guess I didn't move far enough away...this was in the Heart of Rage Stronghold

If you hit M for the map there is a respawn feature in it , had to use it myself ;) . Just hold Y

:banghead:

Like the previous weapon issue this is hilarious, but I am seriously starting to wonder if Bioware even bothers to test anything in these updates before releasing them.
Ridiculous. Apparently enemies also dynamically scale in real time based on the average item level of the person attacking them. So even though the popup damage numbers look high it can take longer to kill mobs compared to a lesser equipped person. This effectively made the level 1 Defender the best weapon in the game. Supposedly this was fixed in a patch today?

EA is fixing the issues everyone.

With a call for free beta testers for a released, retail, AAA game that you bought.

They are seriously trying to give Bethesda a run for their money on biggest shit show.

I can't even.......They didn't just release this game 6 months early....they are going for 6 years early at this point. EA is going to shoot them in the back of the head with a doublebarreled shotgun in the middle of a county fair just to make a example at this point.

My origin premier expired today and honestly I'm not even sad at this point. I'm super glad I played it safe and did the 1 month trial of the game instead of buying it lol, hopefully they fix it and let it grow so I can revisit in 6 months.

One thing it did do right is show me how much destiny 2 does do right even with it's faults, between destiny 2 on my PS4 and division 2 on my PC I've got my looter shooter genre needs filled.

Plot and structure-wise, it feels like they were very heavily influenced by the original shipping version of Destiny 1. Considering how long this took to make, I bet that's the case. For their sake I'll hope that they have a "Taken King" to make things right.

I still do not see why publishers insist on doing it their way. It has been proven that it does not work and methodology is almost the same as a drug user needing his fix ...

After playing the Division 2 last night, I am honestly angry at the pile of crap that BW gave us. I want to like Anthem, and I honestly enjoy the actual gameplay, but everything else is just awful. Div2 is 1000x more polished, and it has 5x the content plus pvp. I get that they had Div1 to build off of, but BW had 6 years and the ability to dissect the competition to see what worked and what didn't.

There's no way the game BW shipped took 6 years to make. It had to have been scrapped and restarted late in the development cycle. I honestly hope we get to hear the story of what happened somewhere down the road. If I had to guess, I think a big part of it is EA forcing Frostbite down their devs' throats. I actually have a friend that works for EA that says everyone there hates that engine because it was designed primarily for FPS games and it's a massive pain to make it do anything outside of that realm.

I've tried defending it for weeks, but I just can't do it anymore. Especially in light of what I've played in Div2.

I'm at Lvl 26...finished all the main story missions, faction quests and strongholds...only thing left are those Faction Contracts...it's very repetitive trying to grind it out to Lvl 30 but I'm still having fun...will be taking a break once Sekiro hits next week so hopefully when I get back into Anthem the endgame content will be improved

I wish I could like the Division. 2 seems like its doing a lot of good stuff in the genre, but the game just turns me off completely. The look of if seems dull, the setting doesn't do anything for me, I want something unique and out there. I love the look of games like Destiny, Anthem, FO76, stuff that has a different visual flare than the drab "realism" Ubisoft loves to plaster modern "Clancy" games with.

The let down for people tends to be where is the story this is bioware ... Every one makes up their own mind about things but in the years that I have owned Diablo 3 it has been an on and off relationship and I expect that Anthem might be the same.

In the end you play what you enjoy that developers seemingly do worse jobs then others is also a bit of where corporate bullshit tags along. We have no idea on what the development process been like for both of those titles what we can guess is that Bioware was worse then Ubisoft.

Not a fan of EA and certainly not of Ubisoft.

Just cancelled my origin access sub, game didnt do anything for me. I may take a look again in 6 months or so.

Assuming both games were of equal quality, I would 100% choose Anthem over the Division. I like the setting more, and flying around in Iron Man suits is more fun than running around a city. Unfortunately, they're not even close in quality. Anthem seems like an early access title that's about 2/3 through development while Div2 feels like a complete game. It's honestly a shame.

do 'Agent Contracts' constantly repeat or do they have an end?...I've been doing the same type of Contracts for awhile now and after I finish them they don't show up under my 'Completed Quests'...I'm not talking about the Agent Quests but Agent Contracts...I've also started getting Legendary Contracts even though I'm not at Lvl 30...I also got a Masterworks gear after completing a normal Contract...how can you tell if the Contract is a Legendary one before accepting it?

Purple are the legendary ones. Also on the map as purple.
Try and get to L30 that will make it a little better your drops should scale nicely after you hit 30. If you complete your dailies and weeklies you get a good deal of masterwork embers which you will need for crafting.

You can get weapons with rather high skills on them through that. Keep using the skills if you are completing the requirements you will get to craft the recipe. Same goes for spells if you use them you can craft them.

thanks...even doing the Legendary contracts on Normal difficulty solo is pretty easy...apparently you only get 1 Legendary contract daily per faction...I think the game really begins again at Lvl 30 with the Grandmaster levels...after finishing the main missions and contract quests it's gets pretty repetitive and boring so I'm hoping Lvl 30 brings a new energy to the game...I have a ton of crafting resources and 147000+ coins and haven't spent it on anything yet...have you bought any cosmetic items with your coins?
