Facepunch Studios has announced The Oil Rig update for Rust which adds new A.I. to the game and support for Vulkan and Metal. Windows users can test out Vulkan, but expect lots of bugs. Linux users have been fully migrated to Vulkan and Mac users to Metal. Other upgrades coming with The Oil Rig update include new wave physics, a return of world reflections, faster loading times and more!

This patch we're introducing the biggest change to our water system in a long while. Our ocean has been roughly flat, aside from short waves that didn't really affect physics. From here on, however, ocean waves will affect the behaviour of any floating body. Larger waves are stronger and higher when further away from the islands, so you can attempt to avoid them by choosing a path closer to the shore. If you do decide to adventure into the unknown, you may want to choose a bigger, more stable vessel.

You'll note how interaction with water now generates disturbance foam, including crest foam at the peak of the deep sea waves. For now only small boats generate disturbance foam, but we'll extend this capability to any bodies interacting with water, as well as improve the level of interaction to include displacement and simulation. Water junk piles in deep sea are no longer flat and static, they are moving with the waves as you attempt to loot whatever's up for grabs.

Umm.... What is this game? The linked website has no info, hardly. Sounds like ARK maybe, with construction equipment?

Metal? Isn't that the api of the S3 Savage 3D? What is this the year 2000?

People still play Rust? I played it with my gaming group years and years ago, before they did a major map revamp. Haven’t heard much about it in years.

If its the same "rust" it was one of the first steam greenlight games that was popular in alpha (even if broken). kind of a pre-cursor to fortnight where you build random forts, fight/kill eachother and gain stuff (supposed to be sandbox pvp game)... its alot of griefing from what i hear mixed with survival and 24/7 play so your stuff is gone the next day.

i havn't played since like the first week lol but i know some folks loved it

So, they rolled out Vulkan for Linux users. Yay! Except... the game hasn't worked since they rolled out the update. There's a massive thread, and we've been waiting for a fix for a few days now, and it looks like they may have simply forgotten to enable Vulkan, or something rudimentary like that, lol...

Honestly, I'm excited for this update! Whenever they build it as working XD

I loved it and have 270h on Steam.
It's a fun builder but as you mention, lots of griefing, and lots of cheating.
