Okay, so my current drive running Win10Pro is getting clogged up, Edge not printing, not copying, not pasting, and so forth, so I decided to load up a fresh copy of Windows 10 64-bit on a different SSD and so I can format this clogged up one. After installing Windows 10 Pro, I tried to install nVidia Geforce driver for my 2080 Ti, after downloading the latest Windows 10 64-bit version, during initial setup, it keeps saying "This nVidia driver is not compatible with this versions of Windows." Wait, what? I don't get. Trying from Experience with the same result.

I read around the internet and many people are having similar problem, but different in some way. No answers from those sites I've visited so far.

Now, back to my clogged up one, trying to figure out what's going on.

Any hints?

Have you tried Display Driver Uninstaller?

Have you fully updated the Windows install? I've had this happen and after I let it download all the updates it had queued everything worked fine.

^^yup. needs to be 1809 for the newest driver to work, I think...

I don't believe that's correct. Do you have a reference for that, or is it just a guess ?
e.g.: I'm running Nvidia Geforce driver version 418.91 (2 versions old but released recently) on Windows Pro x64 ver 1703 (10.0.15063).

Latest release notes are here as a reference: https://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/419.35/419.35-win10-win8-win7-desktop-release-notes.pdf
Given it still supports Windows 7, I suspect it's not likely it would drop support or not install on earlier versions of Windows 10.

maybe I misunderstood this part:
"1. Includes support for Windows 10 October 2018 Update (Version 1809) (Redstone 5)"

Go to Control Panel -> System.

Take a screen shot of that and post it here.

No screenshot, but it says:

Windows 10 Pro

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900 CPU @ 3.60GHz

Installed Memory: 32.0 GB

System Type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor.

I thought the latest one might have some issues, so I tried the version just prior to it (419.17) and still the same result. Running out of patience.

Make sure you aren’t downloading the 32 bit version of the driver, or the notebook version of the driver. The default menu item on the website says 20 series but then mentions its for notebooks at the end of it. It’s easy to miss.

I ran into a problem with nVidia drivers here recently that I could not resolve until I used DDU to completely remove the nVidia drivers so that I could do a fresh install. Like Kwaz recommended, it's a 2 minute process to download and use DDU. Give it a shot.

Make sure you're installing the correct version of the driver (DCH or standard). If Windows Update snuck in a driver for your video card it will be the DCH version and this error will pop up if you try to install the standard version.

Yes, it's the 64-bit and non-Notebook version, I'm pretty sure of that. I do see the list and pick the correct one for my card.

^^ This. Microsoft I believe said that the DCH version of the drivers get installed via Windows Update on a fresh install of 10. That's at least what they say LOL. Some people will just resort to keeping internet connection not connected during install and installing the video driver from the downloaded installer.

Not sure why they insist on [apparently] wanting to install the DCH version. Microsoft telling you what they think is best I guess.

DCH is the new driver standard from Microsoft. I believe that it is going to be forced on users at some point in the near future, perhaps as soon as the new WDM release in version 19H1. The issue with the NVIDIA driver is you have to download the control panel separately through the frickin Windows Store. That is the 'H' in "DCH" (Hardware Support App).

Ah. I heard Intel was doing the same thing with stuff like their video drivers and I think Realtek has a DCH driver for their audio.

make sure you get the new usb creation tool so that you get the newest release.
Just FYI:
I tried that when I upgraded from Z87 to Z390, and the installation kept failing. I had to install from my original retail USB stick and use the update helper application from Microsoft to get to 1809. Not saying that this is a certainty for everyone, just giving a heads up.

yeah ive seen that and ive had the usb creation tool be picky with pendrives. usually dumping the partition and letting the tool partition/format fixes it.
