Disney CEO Bob Iger shared new details regarding his company’s upcoming streaming service, Disney Plus, during an investor meeting this week. In addition to original movies and television shows, Iger revealed the service would eventually offer “the entire Disney motion picture library,” which effectively puts an end to the company’s tradition of locking titles away. (“Once a run of The Little Mermaid on Disney DVD and Blu-ray has sold through, for instance, it’s back into the Vault until it’s released again.”) He also confirmed this year’s releases, such as Captain Marvel, would be on the service.

The service, which I mentioned earlier is going to launch later in the year, is going to combine what we call library product, movies, and television, with a lot of original product as well, movies and television. And at some point fairly soon after launch it will house the entire Disney motion picture library, so the movies that you speak of that traditionally have been kept in a “vault” and brought out basically every few years will be on the service. And then, of course, we’re producing a number of original movies and original television shows as well that will be Disney-branded.

OMG! Now I can stream The Little Mermaid ANY time I want?!! It's technological magic. What's next, flying cars and Star Wars movies without flying cars?

Probably not a bad option to be honest for someone with young kids.

Not something I'd subscribe to for awhile. I always prefer hard copies where possible. [H]DD copies being the best.

I will consider it, if they keep the promise. No bullshit, no half assery, all in, all contents ( i obviously expect time delays from cinema to streaming ), and yeah that means Disney channel stuff and so on.
I will consider it and if it keeps me engaged it will be 'nexflix 2' for me... Meaning long term subscription.
If they do half ass bullshit, im out.

I wonder if it'll include some of the old disney tv and movies that are no longer considered PC? I'm guessing not, as PC as disney's gotten. I'd love to rewatch old series from when I was a kid, like Swampfox.

This service will do extremely well, especially for families with children.

I would pay for a service that offered all the Disney movies and all the Warner Brothers / Looney Tunes shorts.

Well, zippity doo dah!

I wish they'd just get around to releasing a few on Blu Ray. I'd like to have the Complete Sets of Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. I honestly don't even care if they're HD. I have the Treasure Sets, but ease of use with the amount of content would be greatly appreciated.

I also think it's a crime they haven't released Make Mine Music or The Three Caballeros. They did a dual pack with Fun and Fancy Free and Icabod. Could done one for those too.

When they say "the entire Disney motion picture library," I think they will conveniently leave out such historical gems like "Song of the South".
You never know, we may get Education For Death or Der Fuehrers Face...
but I kinda doubt we'll ever see Donald saluting Hitler again :)

Edit: It would be nice for a clean version of it, there's a great scene of donald having an acid trip with mortar shells. I'd also like to see clean ones of Coal Black And De Sebben Dwarfs, Tin Pan Alley Cats, and Red Hot Riding Hood, but those are WB/MGM.

I bet none of you guys have kids, that's the only reason why most of you are saying NOPE. Geeeeeeeeeeeet the fuck outa here, even your wives would agree with me haha.

I too have a hard time believing that "everything" will be available. Disney has spent decades sanitizing it's history.

However I did want to point out the sheer fuck-ton of content this could include, even without the less PC titles.

There are thousands of hours of low budget Disney channel shows going back to the 80s that's gonna take up a laughable amount of space.
Matter of fact I expect a great deal of that was low resolution/poor broadcast quality. Beyond it's original production quality was anytime concerned with preserving it?
So I'll bet there's a big pile of that getting digitized somewhere.

Will it even be up to their standard of quality?

Here's my prediction: the less desirable titles, (like Some of the South) will be missing for reasons of poor quality preservation. It'll be lumped in with the early Disney channel cringy type stuff.

No way on earth Song of the South will be there so it won’t be their complete library. Just marketing hype

Key words are "motion picture library", which is fancy for movies, feature films, etc, not all historical Disney content.

But I already have this on my Plex server, so yeah.

So now that they won't be "vaulting" their content anymore does that also mean they will return to producing hardcopy as well? I'd love to have the option to purchase BluRay's of movies they had vaulted.

Have kid. Will be checking this out.

Many of you probably aren't their target market.

That's not legal though.

I get that, for sure, I don't waste time pirating anything that isn't worth my time buying. The problem is that these streaming services are rapidly becoming the very thing that they're replacing. I won't pretend I somehow miraculously know a better way to do things, but I know that the old way of doing things is failing.

I routinely see a lot of their animated movies on blu-ray in stores. Stuff that rarely, if ever, got physical releases in the last decade probably still won't get them.

I really don't want to subscribe to this ... but I have 2 kids, in the single digits, so I don't really have a choice.

Disney = Star Wars and Marvel

So the demographic is much larger than people realize.

Disney has hinted many times they would begin to put all future content on a streaming platform only. Most notably, they have finally finished the Clone Wars TV cartoon that they forced Cartoon Network to cancel shortly after the buyout. When it drops, all the prior seasons will be removed from Netflix.

San Diego Comic Con 2018 trailer for the final season.

Personally, I may toss a few bucks their way to see some new content, depending on what it is, then only re-up when necessary. I did the same for the DC streaming service to check out their new Titans show (it wasn't too bad), then promptly canceled afterwards.

Yes, but will it just be more of the same crap they are putting on the big screen (minus marvel, but I think that too will go TLJ after Endgame).

The Clone Wars final season won't be on the big screen. Disney also has a couple animated Star Wars shows right now as well as a handful of Marvel Superhero shows currently running. Those are what I'm referring to, and none of those will hit the big screen.

Yes, but I am assuming they will f them up like they have The big screen. Disney has a history to live down too.
