Grim Dawn Alpha starts tomorrow

For some reason I get a lot of black screens randomly in GD and it really works my RX 580 hard.
Eventually it just freezes up and I have to hard reboot.

Up to 160w easily according to wattman.
Stock or OC no diff.
Tried starting the game in DX9 as suggested online and no diff.

Shame because I love the genre.

I don't have this issue with D3 or PoE. Maxed out in 4k.

Post your issue here in the Bug Reports section: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/

9 times out of 10, they'll have a solution for ya.. GL!

I get some lockups at startup every now and then and have to reboot as well. I suspect it has something to do with the Steam overlay loading simultaneously. Also I get some lockups when exiting back to the main menu to load another character up. It doesn't happen frequently, just unexpectedly, Just learned to live with it I guess. I'm wondering if the x64 executable, when it's released, will have any effect with these issues.

I seem to average around half a dozen crashes a year....

ALWAYS at the load screen with that little crate icon in the bottom right.

I can crtl-shift-escape out though, no prob.

- Also, if you launch the game from Steam (not the desktop icon), it'll let you try the 64-bit client. (at least for me, it gives me the option)

I don't have any issues playing this on my laptop.. granted, it heats up a little bit, but it's with dedicated graphics. PoE does it's best to jank things up, as it's poorly coded, so it's expected. You might have cooling issues? Loving this game, btw,

Yea this game is such a compelling experience. I intend to give it another go at some point. Currently still playing Pillars of Eternity tho.

I finally got it to run for a while without crashing and played about 2hrs worth.

Probably won't be playing it much as I feel it's a bit sterile and the graphics are somewhat un-inspiring.

Just not for me. Gonna hit up WH40K Inquisitor - Martyr next for another take on the genre.

It gets better after the 1st Act stuff opens up a bit and you get more skills and stuff but then again I have 101 hours in the game. Macro your skills on the side mouse button I wore my front click on my Razer mouse almost smooth from this game.

It's crazy how people can play the same thing and have completely opposite experiences. Grim Dawn is probably the best ARPG I've played in terms of experience. There's hidden areas, compelling side quests and events, end bosses, dungeons, etc. Compared to the likes of Path of Exile or Diablo 3, I found this game very immersive.

Yeah man, different strokes and shit....

" With the expansion’s release fast approaching, we have many artistic treats in store for you. As you well know, the expansion is actively in playtesting. Last week, all of the expansion’s content was put to the test as the playtesters threw themselves at the final dungeon and its boss. Initial impressions are very positive! We can’t wait to get it into your hands soon, still on track for Q1 2019. "

Crate software tease I mean really if you going to tease a guy that much. It better be good.......so we have about a month and a half left so it could be anywhere inbetween.

.... We should all group-up after launch and do some [H]ardcore Shattered Realm runs!

Is the new expansion end game content only or any changes for new characters ?

It's the last DLC for Grim Dawn so yeah it's End Game. There is a new class called an Oathkeeper which is basically a Tank class.

Ah cool , no complaints from me it's endgame only , was going to start over from scratch in it as it's been well over a year since played it.

So might pick up the expansion and start as an Oathkeeper.

Should I grab the other expansions also at the same time ?(only have the base game)

Crucible is awesome pick that up along with Ashes of Malmouth both are good. You can probably skip the Steam Loyalist upgrade nothing really worth you time.
Be warned took me about 100 hours to get my character to where I wanted him which is about level 67 or 100 hours total but you can do if fast with a group. Use the Crucible DLC to get some devotion points to help you out when you start out like extra Health and Damage.

This guy has the coolest build if you ask me doesn't seem fun to play but it looks nice with the Spear of Heavens.

Much thanks for the info.

Actually thinking of trying to slow and see and do everything so not worried about speeding through it too much.

Been fairly disappointed at recent game releases and remembered I enjoyed this a good bit just got sidetracked , would be good to have one to dig into for a good while.

Patch came out late Tuesday apparently! Enjoy.

Get your theorycrafting caps on, because Grim Dawn's latest major update has arrived on Steam (coming very soon to GOG)!

While this one has its own big share of balancing changes as we prepare you for the Forgotten Gods expansion later this month, the biggest highlight by far is the introduction of our much more powerful Loot Filter. Be sure to check it out!

For the full list of changes, see below:

V1.1.0.0

so yeah, legendary drop rate have seemed to increase like they have stated lol.
On average a quick Steps run, only killing heros and Alkamos, now will usually yield atleast three legendaries. Not bad for 10mins time.

Oh man. I got to get things settled down before I can play this.

I've played it off and on for the last few years. Always liked it. The expansion looks good.

Plays well on Linux too, just fyi

Grim Dawn Version 1.1.1.0

A surprise patch has appeared!

As we push towards the Forgotten Gods release (just 2 more days as of this post!), we are throwing every improvement we can at you.

Today's patch has some pretty exciting changes to the animation system that we are thrilled to get into your hands.

We hope you enjoy this pre-release patch! For the full list of changes, see below:

v1.1.1.0

Note to Community Translators: v1.1.0.0 Translation packs are compatible with the v1.1.1.0 patch.

[Major New Features]
  • Melee combat animations have been updated to feel more responsive and snappy. In some cases, the hit call occurs slightly faster than before, but overall animation timings remain the same as before and this change has no impact on the speed of attacks.
  • Improved blending on ranged combat animations. This change has no impact on the speed of attacks.
  • Improved weapon trails visible during weapon attacks, particularly with magic weapons.

[Tech]
  • Added "/x64" command line option. When added to the game shortcut, forces the 64 bit version to launch.
  • Fixed a crash which could sometimes occur when joining multiplayer games using a 32 bit client.
  • Fixed a crash which could occur when rendering Chinese/Japanese/Korean/Thai/Vietnamese fonts.
  • Fixed an issue where monsters would sometimes begin rapid-firing their skills like some sort of bullet-hell game. We put them back in the correct genre.
  • Fixed a crash which could occur when joining a multiplayer server using an incorrect password.

[Game]
  • Fixed a bug where pets (and monsters) would sometimes try to attack enemies which should not normally be targeted.
  • Exorcised the Depraved Sanctuary door so that it no longer appears open when it is in fact not.
  • Fixed an issue where player pets would suffer from negative health regeneration (and thus rapidly perish) when affected by certain monster debuffs (ex. Aetherial Regurgitator's aura).

[Itemization]
  • Legendary - Beacon of Lost Souls: added 50% of Physical dealt as Vitality for pets
