"Welcome to the new era in spaceflight”: an alternate, feasible method for ferrying astronauts to the International Space Station appears to be well within reach, as SpaceX’s “Crew Dragon” capsule, the first commercial spaceship made for NASA astronauts, managed to successfully dock with the ISS this morning, and without a robotic arm, no less, despite requiring “down-to-the-millisecond precision.” Assuming the Crew Dragon’s re-entry test is successful, astronauts could be using it as soon as this summer.

Nobody was on board to open Crew Dragon's hatch — only 400 lbs of cargo and a female crash-test dummy named "Ripley". However, NASA says SpaceX's demonstration or Demo-1 mission was "a critical first step" in restoring US-crewed access to space, since the goal is to prove the new spaceship is safe to fly its astronauts. "A new generation of space flight starts now with the arrival of @SpaceX's Crew Dragon to the @Space_Station," Jim Bridenstine, NASA's administrator, tweeted on Sunday.

Ripley had a hell of a time keeping stations afloat. She's more of a harbinger of doom in my mind...Still, good luck for the future passengers.

Nice. Not quite as impressive as the fucking self landing backwards rocket on a moving sea platform, but still very nice and a good step forward.

One positive with the female crash dummy the tax payers will save a bunch on spray in perms.

Historic and CGI pic don't go together.

I watched 90 minutes of the docking this morning, that CGI pic looks way more heroic than reality. NASA may be awesome at delivering inspiring science, but if they tried to give that docking reel to Hollywood everyone would tell them it needs a reshoot.

"Ripley"
Please say someone painted a red spot on its chest!?

i like how they are just making the rocket returns look easy now

hahaha

Rock on Spacex. No other company on Earth like them. I mean who else launches a Tesla into space while playing David Bowie at the time of fairing separation. Think Boeing or NASA could get something like that past their board of directors? The answer is a hell no. Spacex has a vision and working philosophy like no one else. Can't wait to see crew dragon with dudes/chicks in it going on up to ISS. Elon, just don't go smoking anymore reefer with Joe Rogan, please.
