YouTube continues its downward spiral: a contributing author for pedimom.com, a pediatrician-run parenting blog, recently discovered that tips for committing suicide were appearing in children’s cartoons on YouTube and the YouTube Kids app. In one video, a man who “resembles Internet personality Joji (formerly Filthy Frank)” shows up on screen and simulates cutting his wrist. “’Remember, kids, sideways for attention, longways for results,’ he says and then walks off screen. The video then quickly flips back to the cartoon.”

“I am disturbed, I am saddened, I am disgusted,” the physician wrote. “But I am also relieved that I was there to see this video with my own eyes, so that I could take the appropriate actions to protect my family.” Those actions included deleting the YouTube Kids app and forever banning it from the house. That particular video was later taken down from YouTube Kids after the doctor reported it to YouTube. However, parents have since discovered that several other cartoons contain information about how to commit suicide, including the same spliced-in video clip.

We're the instructions actually correct? To slice vertically on the arm and not across?

Does anyone have any non-hearsay info on this? I've heard it's just a new urban legend going around.

Im done too... Its shit videos anyway, we vanquished as much as we could.

The video of the video was posted.
I suspect is some sick youtube employees though.
Everything is a conspiracy? Or just some messes up person on the internet. But YouTube so conspiracy central due to google who is conspiracy king.

If you want to get to heaven, you walk down the road, you don't cross the street.
What is a God to a none believer? I personally couldn't care cause YouTube is basically shooting themselves in the foot. The stuff kids like on YouTube is not soccer mom approved, not that the parents give a damn when they throw tablets at their kids. Have you seen the stuff kids watch on YouTube? Look at the millions of views this Jeffy crap gets as well as all the other stuff that's on YouTube that kids watch. Advertisers are clearly not happy with the content that is basically today's Ren and Stimpy. Good luck with that one since 90% of the audience on YouTube are under the age of 18.

It just doesn't make sense for a kids video producer, which can make significant amounts of money, to splice sick shit in their videos and risk loosing everything.
Hence, sick fuck employee.

That is FilthyFrank, he created a series of green screened clips for other content creators to use on various videos for fun so someone grabbed it from that.

If this is about the MOMO Challenge, it a freaking hoax goddammit, heck there are already reports done dissecting how the hoax was created and shared.

At this point, who cares if it is real or not. Stop raising idiot kids and you won't have to worry about them doing whatever they read.

The population is having less and less kids and the kids we are having are stupid. Why does Idiocracy seem inevitable?

Control the population.. have your kids blank or blank. You fill in the blanks!

Turn your kids blank with them teaching them there not a girl or boy in kindergarten now a days!.. kill the babies durring or after birth!! or encourage them to off themselves. All in the name of depopulation!

It's a crazy world we live in today! But dont talk about it!! Or else we shame you!

HEY Don't babysit it, pass that crack pipe whoops meant pass the blank blank. OH that blank blank is good.

I had a teacher in 9th grade that told us longways works best. I don't think he liked us that much. Looking back, I don't recall anything happening to that teacher at all. (This was in the 80's).

Everything I have read about this indicates it's an urban legend - that there was a video presented as proof, but that in the wild no-one seems to have come across it at all.

cutting sideways or lengthwise will both kill you if you cut deep and long enough, but cutting sideways will kill you slower (something something about no. of veins cut, and which vein gets cut) .
Hence the idea that cutting sideways means getting attention as the chance to rescue or to get help/attention is longer.

oh, and youtube for kids should be a fully moderated app. youtube can pay for the moderation with the ads.

Don't let ______ babysit your kids. Enter anything media related, and you are doing well. Give them Legos, give them pets, give them outdoors. Most important, give them your undivided attention.

Google YT algorithim is only good at demonetizing and removing normal content it cant catch the stuff its designed for .

In a perfect world, their algorithm would help moderate the content. I did some dev work building up a story building app for kids and it is insane the hoops you have to jump through to test your work on your target audience. It SHOULD be difficult to test things on children, but you really don't appreciate how difficult until you've tried to with nothing but good intentions. Add Google's business model to the equation and good luck getting anything done.

Hey, who needs regulation? Let the market fix itself!
Parents just need to do their job. Do you think YT is the only place to get videos? If YT becomes milktoast, other places will become the cool place. Then what?

Does anyone have any non-hearsay info on this? I've heard it's just a new urban legend going around.
There's a concerted desire for corporations to move over to YT from Cable and they want to purge out the competition down to cat videos. Making it more burdensome for creators and more algorithmic on YT's side the more creators have to play it safe and/or quit.

I saw this on my bookface page from someone, spent a good hour and could not find a single video of this with this momo crap or whatever spliced into a cartoon. Tons of news coverage and yet no one had a video of it? Only the one shown in the articles but none of what they describe. I am willing to bet that they are all running with this story just to be first.

also, maybe don't leave your kids on youtube alone. The fucked up stuff i've found on the internet since dialup days, My kids will grow up amish with only hearing stories about the internet.

Why anyone would give a child access to the internet let alone social media is beyond me.
It's like things go digital and people become stupid.

Lets drop Billy off, alone at the public playground for 3 hours a day because it keeps him entertained. I'm sure it's safe.
Bad peoples? Oh noes!

Youtube "kids" is marketed as an app on several devices safe for kids, hence the concern from parents.

Hey, who needs regulation? Let the market fix itself!

And what regulation is going to fix this? This is the problem with "regulation" it starts with good "intentions" but can often end up screwing up more than it set out to fix. Youtube already has a vested interest to try and fix this themselves. They have already turned off comments on videos with kids, they will likely start doing the same with kids videos and content in general.

I've never really understood why it's call, "Suicide" when "Justifiable Homicide"* is a more accurate term.

*You're killing the person trying to kill you

Parenting 101:

Your kids should not be on the Internet without supervision.

This goes for any activity with a child, from internet access and games to TV and sports. "But, I don't want to be a helicopter parent." isn't a valid excuse until your child becomes a well-rounded young-adult.
