Boom. AMD don’t let me down like the Fury X did! lol. Given that was the AIO and I had AIO issues with the 1080tis too.

Can’t resist a good GPU to tweak the hell out of. I’ll waterblock it when available.
 
Enjoy the card Dayaks. It does seem to be an awesome card for tweakers. Will be interesting to read your comparisons to the 1080ti.
 
Yeah - and I have to upgrade my Ryzen 1200 too right? Need those big benchmark numbers. Down the rabbit hole we go...
I'm running a Ryzen 1600X on my HTPC (which I just added a 1660 Ti to) and I'm getting surprisingly good performance for a budget rig.

The 1200 is pretty low, but you can probably upgrade to a 2600 or 2600X and get a solid boost.

I think I am going to keep that the 1200 as a dedicated mining rig (I like the free heat.) I also don’t feel right and hate the bs of selling hardware.

I will probably do something like a 2600x since this does hook up to my 4k TV. The 1200 did surprisingly well in most games with a 1080ti and 60Hz.

I need to read into powerlimits and such on AMD.... I saw you did +16% which is peanuts to me lol.
 
Urge... just bit and picked one up to replace my vega64. Don’t even know why... other than sounding like a jet engine (PowerColor Red Devil) I was getting decent frames on a 1440p 144hz monitor. Damn I hate having upgraditis.
 
Radeon VII is a nice upgrade from Vega 64.

You are looking at a 30% boost, maybe more with overclocking.

Definitely worth it.
 
I almost ordered one today when Kyle posted the amd.com link. From a Vega 56 figured it would be a good bump but I would have totally drained my PayPal account.

Maybe if they’ve still got them when I sell a few more things...
 
Good to know, but I think I've got as much extra performance as I can without going to water.

If you do not have that 1200, OC'd, take it to 4Ghz (if you have good cooling, you should be able to at least hit 3.9Ghz. If you are playing at 1440P or higher (which you mentioned 4K) then just enjoy being GPU limited for ~3 months until Zen 2 drops...I think the wait is going to be HIGHLY worth it. I think you should be avble to grab a 6/8c HT model that clocks to 5Ghz, or has enough IPC to equal a 5ghz 9900K at its stock or with a bit of OC'ing for under $250ish.

That’s perfectly valid advice. I am going to keep the 1200 rig to run a few GPUs doing distributed compute. The 1080tis have questionable stability so I’d feel bad selling them. Also the ram, ssd, ect aren’t really great capacity or speed for gaming.

I got a 2600x for $199 which should be slight overkill for my 60Hz TV. Should be fun tossing it together. Sucks I have to wait a month for waterblocks. I might replace my 2700x with a 3xxx CPU since my main rig runs VR, ect.

It’s good to see AMD put a solid high end product out.

The GPU block wait is killing me as well. I've always WC'd my card.
 
Nice video. Looks like there are some gains for water cooling but the power play thing doesn't seem to add much on top.

Yeah, scaling seems to take a nose dive once you hit around 500w. Tis still early though and we might see better results from others.
 
Interesting. So it basically mauls a 1080ti and a 2080 if you look at 0.1 and 1% lows and watercool it.

That would be the far more important stat I look at. Of course you have to ignore the massive power draw increase to get it tho.

The heat for me goes to my house in the winter or my pool in the summer. Not quite as cheap as gas... but at least it's not wasted. :)
 
Been waiting to see what this card can do opened up. Pretty strong showing albeit at crazy powerdraw levels. Looking forward to more of the results as proper blocks roll out and more cards get tested.
 
The video from Gamer's Nexus also suggests that a full coverage block is not really necessary for this card. A decent generic GPU block (Koolance and EK I know have these as I have one from each) or AIO works fine as long as you have reasonable airflow in your case and the block is flat (may need to lap it). The VRMs don't get very hot at all unless you are going for extreme OC with volt mods, and since the RAM is right next to the core, your block will cool that as well.

the one thing he said he didn't do is mess with the memory, he ran the same +200 memory overclock as the non power plan overclock.. personally i think the memory overclock/timings is what's really going to see frame rate increases, gpu seems like it's being bottlenecked.

Go have a look at Vega overclocking from Buildzoid. He ran into barriers sooner then you think you can get serious scaling going. Maybe that is also why there is no liquid cooling version of this card as there was on Vega. AMD did not fix a lot on this die shrink...

A liquid cooled version could at least keep top boost speeds quiet...

tbh, if you can get ~1950mhz this card is competing VERY well with overclocked 2080s and in some games nips at the heels of the 2080ti. That's pretty impressive considering it's still GCN. Power consumption isn't terrible either at ~450 watts total system consumption.

That is the thing that a lot of people do not understand..They claim to have an uber quiet system, but they do not do have 780mm of rad space that is SILENT (right at ambient noise floor). They do not understand that we run our cards @ 35C, while they champoin their 4LB 3 slot coolers that keep their cards @ 75~83C...We get max boost without trying, or max performance they will never have. I have pieced my ssytem together over a 10 year period..I would sell off rads I no longer needed, and replace them etc..

I was set way back thanks to a ton of life issues, but I think I have a great sample sitting here. I think 2Ghz is going to be there, maybe more (sustained mind you and not the wattman incorrect reporting). Hoping to find out soon. I swear if that "If life gives you lemons then make lemonade" statement were true, everyone on the planet would drink nothing but CCity branded lemonade and I would worth more then Bezos.


For anyone interested, I reduced the price of the card I am selling to where I am going to barely break even after shipping. If you or someone you know wants one, then send them my way. Also just listed a pair of EK blocked VEGAs for sale.
 
One thing I never get, you read reviews and they say the Radeon VII is about the same performance and price as Nvidia 2080, so might as well buy the 2080.

Well, if they are the same performance for same price, why don't you buy AMD? It goes both ways, but reviewers and consumers seem to favor Nvidia.
