Monoprice 49” 32:9 Ultra Wide $679

I have the Samsung version of this (CHG90) and I love it. HIGHLY recommended to anybody looking at this form factor. This is also about $150 cheaper than I got my monitor christmas of 2017.

How does the aspect ratio effect the look? I know size wise it's exactly 2 27" monitors. Does the ratio/size make the 1080p look any different? If i was going from 2 27" 1440p monitors to this, would the 1080p be extremely noticeable or not because of the aspect ratio? Trying to decide if it's a downgrade or not coming from 16:9 1440p. Never seen a large ultrawide in person so not sure what the screen looks like.

I have this res in a 34" and it is nice. I would love the 1440p version but not the cost or GPU to run it....

It doesn't look any different. The selling point here is that it's big enough to engulf your vision for gaming and the like. As far as everyday tasks, its very much a 1080p monitor and not sharp enough for me personally for day to day use. I use a Dell 34" 1440p as my main monitor and dedicated the 49" display to a DIY home racing simulator.

Thanks, that's what i was afraid of. I was also looking at the Samsung C43J89. 3840x1200 and 120hz. May have to rethink the direction i go.

Damn you, OP! I should not have looked on [H] before going to bed :-D

In for one for my Vega 7 rig. This will be my first Freesync monitor. I was looking at the Samsung version last year but alot of people said it wasn't worth the $1500 or whatever it was then. BUT now at under 700? Heck yeah! Plus free shipping too.

This should make my gaming a little snappier FPS-wise as well, since it has less pixels to push - 3,758,400 pixels vs my current Alienware 3418DW's 4,953,600 pixels.

Perhaps that is a mistake coming from arguably the best gaming monitor right now?

To each his own. The 49” monitors are pretty much aimed for flying sims and driving sims. Most every thing else will fisheye bad and the GUI elements in games are often outside of peripheral vision at most seating distances, My buddy bought the similar 49” Samsung model for dedicated simulation racing and couldn’t deal with the resolution. He’s back to three 32” 1440p monitors.

I do hope you like it though.

I know what you mean Archea, if this was my only rig, I'd be with you 100%. I usually need vertical space for Excel spreadsheets but losing that for what will be my gaming only rig is all right. I'm putting the AW display on my Titan Xp SLI rig so I can use GSync. Plus, unlike some people, I did not get lucky with my AW panel lottery. It looks and works great but as soon as you start overclocking it, it begins to blank / black out every 3-5 seconds.

FWIW, I don’t think overclocking to 120hz is guaranteed by Dell, but if thats important to you, I’ve read some people contact Dell and are able to get a refurb replacement for free to try to capture that 120hz. Personally if you don’t have backlight bleed, or any other issues I’d probably leave well enough alone personally I can’t tell a difference between 100hz and 120hz for gaming smoothness with Gsync engaged.

The age old problem - return a brand new item and get a refurb (that may be better or worse) or just stick with the one you already have and deal with its issues (the devil you know)? I chose the latter :-D
