GL hunting one down. Do want to point out that Adobe has been killing off activation servers for their older software. CC4 and older are now no longer activatable, CC5 and up are still going. But who knows for how long. Hate to say it, but you may want to just pick up a subscription. Considering it's Acrobat though, I have a feeling it will go for much longer, as I still know some businesses running windows 7.....haha.

Man, I hate adobe. I have their suite, as I do a lot of creative tasks, but messed up that those who paid for older versions can no longer reinstall their application, where as you can download them illegally and work just fine....lol. So wrong.....But I'm not a big fan of this subscription model.

Tha's freaking crazy>!>! so bought it but can't use it? as the kids say..that's messed up

Yea. There were some articles about it a while back. They slowly have been ramping up. Use to only be CS2 and earlier, than CS3...End of last year, CS4 was added to that list. Their official activation issue page shows CS3 and earlier dead, without a mention of CS4 also being in the same boat. Seems they haven't updated their page. States Acrobat 8 and earlier being dead, but considering the info is outdated, Acrobat 9 could be on that list. So I'd be wary buying a 10 license expecting to get long use out of it.

Honestly, borderline criminal. You buy an application that is damn expensive, and get treated like this? Messed up. Sad to see it's slowly transitioning to subscription for a lot of things =*(.

RE the Adobe activation serves... isn't the are giant list of them you can add to your HOSTS file and have them point to 127.0.0.1 ?

If it can't connect to the activation servers, you can't register the product. It has to do more with activation. Once you have it installed and activated, you are fine, but if you need to format and reinstall, you won't be able to activate the software package, hence not able to use it anymore. Even if you add the commonly used addresses to your host file, you won't be able to get the activation done, which will not let you complete the initial installation/setup. The hosts redirect is more commonly used in the warez scene for cracked copies avoiding phoning home.
