I have an Asus GL502 ROG laptop with I7 7700, GTX 1060 3gb, 500nvme, 2TB micron ssd, and 24GB ram. Having issues with running games in 1920 by 1080, freezes, games sometimes lockup, doesn't happen if I play in lower res 1366 by 768 is fine. I can play Atmos movies in 1920 w no problems even 2160 on external monitor. VR runs fine. Is the 3GB not enough vram? I did have all graphic options maxed out. Temp around 70 c latest drivers installed. OPtimus is disabled by Asus in hardware NO intel drivers at all in video output, straight Nvidia for all graphics. Latest Crash was Hellblade and again did not crash in 1366 res.......

Run HWiNFO64 in the background, play a game that's giving you trouble, and see if the VRAM is maxing out.

Low VRam wont cause lockups.
Lower res doesnt cause as high a load all the time so that isnt a conclusive test.
I suggest there is a stability issue.

If you arent overclocking (otherwise reduce the clocks) look at ways to remove dust from anywhere air flows.
Check the fans are operating well and dont appear to run too slow.

If all is well in those depts, you may need to reduce the default gfx clock speed to get stability back.
But as a precaution, try installing windows on an external drive and see if the problems still exist.
If the machine is still under warranty and a good clean out doesnt help, it might be worth taking it back to where you bought it.

the machine is clean cooling system is fine.OS is fine just upgraded to 1809. How would I downclock the graphics it's a laptop? would afterburner do it?

yes ab can downclock. drivers up to date?

The only thing that 3GB of ram will do is make your game look like a slide-show because the computer is having to use your HD and other system ram because your video card's ram is filled out. I think you have a stability issue with another component in your computer.

I just ran Furmark at max resolution for the last half hour, Heaven, valley. Superposition, 3dmark and with prime95 running at the same time NO crash. seems to me if I had a weak component i would have a freeze or crash..... I did notice that win 10 would very quickly switch from 1366 to 1920 for a fraction of a second when opening a window. I switched to native res at 1920 x 1080 and enabled G-sync. This was before I ran the benchmarks. I don't know where I read it but there was a remark about something like that happening after 1809 update. 1809 did this new modern driver's thing maybe that was causing my problems the machine has not crashed at all this evening.
