For about 14 hours last week, the Steam page for Obsidian's upcoming RPG, The Outer Worlds, was listed as "August 6, 2019 18:00:00 UTC." While the date has since been taken down without a peep from Obsidian, SteamDB logged all the changes Obsidian made. Additionally, Altchar claims that Amazon posted and quickly pulled a listing for the game with an August 6 release date, but didn't cite any evidence or grab any screenshots. As we've noted before, Game Informer has dumped quite a bit of Outer Worlds info over the past few months, and for fans of old Fallout games or Obsidian''s older RPGs, there's a lot to like about the game. Thanks to PC Gamer for spotting the listing.

Check out another interview with Tim Cain and Leon Boyarsky here.

In this exclusive Game Informer interview, Ben Hanson interviews the co-directors of Obsidian's The Outer Worlds Tim Cain and Leon Boyarsky about the challenges of writing comedy in an RPG and the delicate balance between absurd and dark that the creators of Fallout are going for with their next RPG.

What you don't like the Windows Store?

The less information I give Microsoft the better. I only use local login accounts in Windows 10, and never use the store. I don't have any form of Microsoft account, and don't want one.

Besides, I remember "Games for Windows - LIVE". What a shit show.

My philosophy is this. I have Steam and GoG. Every single game I've bought in the last 16 years has been in those platforms. I have a large catalogue there and I really don't want to switch to anything else. I don't need yet another app running in the background, spying on me, and installing god knows what kind of DRM on my system.

Don't get me wrong. Competition in the marketplace is good. I want there to be many competing platforms so that I can make the choice which one I am going to use. I have made my choice, but others (especially young kids today starting out with Fortnite as their favorite game) may choose Epic instead because they already have it and are familiar with it.

Exclusives - however - are not competition. If used to forcibly get people to try a new store, it is nothing but a monopoly on a title by a smaller store. It is a cancer on the industry.

I am well aware that Valve has pulled this shit as well, and I don't like it when they do it either. I want a market like back in the day where I could walk into any retailer of games and pick up any title, bring it home and install it. Sure, occasionally there were some brick and mortar exclusives back then too, but the difference was I didn't have to install them on my computer. Once you bought the disk you had the disk, doesn't matter where it came from. The stores should compete on their own merits, not on what titles they have bribed publishers so they can get exclusives.

Long story short. I have Steam and GoG. I'm not ever installing anything else no matter what exclusives they dream up. I also won't install anything from Steam or GoG that requires me to install or sign up for an account with a third party service. (I'm looking at you Origin/EA), and I won't use the Microsoft Store. These are not negotiable in the slightest no matter what happens.

You do you, but I just couldn't imagine caring so much about installing another client that I would refuse to play a game. I mean let's be honest here - the only real reason you like Steam so much is they pulled this shit off first.

Wow, didnt know this game existed until now. Looks like half life meets fallout with maybe some hints of old school space quest. kinda excited

I guess I'm an outlier. If it's the game I want at the best price or if it's just a developer that I happen to like and want to support (like CD Project Red and GOG), I'll load another appstore.

Of course I turn off the autostarts at boot most of the time either from the app settings or by using a ini editor (I use Ccleaner Pro, the startup editor is under the tools menu).

It's not that big of a deal. I feel like people spend more time whinging on the forum about it than just making the setting changes and just moving on with their lives. If Epic can get the games I want @ the best price, I have zero problem with that.

Oh and for relevance, I can't wait until Outer Worlds comes out - the video demos so far have looked great!

I'm not even convinced I "like Steam so much". I could take it or leave it based on it's own merits.

In this day and age when everything collects data on us, it is in everyone's best interest to have as few applications installed as possible, both on our phones and our computers. I already have two clients installed. GoG which I pretty much trust due to their non DRM stance, and Steam, which I don't necessarily trust, but I am stuck with because I have so many titles in it.

I'm not about to add another.

Yep, thats what 3 games now? Damn, Epic is saving me a ton of money :)

Likewise. And seriously it is only rough for maybe the first month of a game release, after that there's little coverage and you end up forgetting anyways. Then when it gets announced on steam for release, it gets exciting again.

As an avid Fallout Series fan, I'm anxiously waiting for Outer Worlds release.

Loyalties aside, the Windows Store is awwwwful.

I was most surprised that Apple tries to push iTunes through the Microsoft Store. For a company with so much emphasis on user experience, they are really throwing caution to the wind (although, it opens up access to Windows S devices).

I care very little about my chosen installer but I often wait for a year or 2 to play these games because I’m just too busy. That said I do want to play this game sooner than not. Probably going to grab it through the windows store because... why not?
