While DLSS generally improves performance in the handful of games that support it, some users have found that it can make games appear excessively blurry. But 4A Games released a patch for Metro Exodus last week which, among other things, includes "DLSS fixes and improvements to sharpness," as well as "RTX fixes and optimization" and various performance and stability improvements. Over the weekend, a number of YouTubers put DLSS performance to the test, and generally, they found a noticeable sharpness improvement over the previous patch. WccftechTV, for example, looked at the same scenes they tested pre-patch, and found that they were noticeably less blurry than the ones post patch, while Hardware Unboxed notes that some artifacts are still present. In my (admittedly limited) experience upscaling videos and textures with neural networks, I still get the same sort of of shimmering and "line" or "wave" artifacts after plenty tweaking, but these problems do seem to be something that Nvidia can minimize over time.

Check out the DLSS analysis here.

Metro Exodus has been updated to support improvements to the DLSS function, but is it really better or does DLSS still mean Doesn't Look Super Sharp?

Changes image quality....3 minute mark before and after

Fence goes really funky looking with an almost grid pattern, the lighting completely changes and then it just destroys the heat effects of the fires, all of a sudden they seem to be putting off more heat than a jet engine

Marsh one is really bad, goes from overcast to god shining a flashlight on the guy.

I prefer no AA at 4K, regardless of method. I'd also suggest an onboard hardware scaler chip for low to mid end cards for 4K would have been a better option. To each their own I guess.

Historically scalers only introduce lag. Would be interesting how they could implement it.

Even though i dont own Nvidia, this is a good thing! Atleast the early-adopters can hopefully get to see the benefits they bought into; before they upgrade again:-(

I don't disagree. But I would imagine an nVidia engineered onboard solution could be far better than what HT receivers, TVs, or even Kramers do. It would be interesting :)

I really have to laugh at how this stuff is implemented vs how its marketed. You use AA, which basically blurs the image, to eliminate the jaggies... then you need DLSS to "smooth" the blurriness that AA and other FX introduces. Somehow that makes the image "sharper".

Its like those pretty actresses you see on TV and Movies... they look totally smooth and silky, but underneath the 5 miles of foundation is a cratered surface that would give Mars a run for its money.

I should make a game about hunting Bigfoot and UFOs... I bet all these "blur" filters would come in handy then.

:) LOL......; their you go dude, FIXED that for you ! :)

Now if only they'd fix the odd HDR+DLSS gamma bug I'd be able to use this instead of either playing at 1440p/everything maxed but DLSS off or 4k/DXR off.

This is a paste from the geforce forums(https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1098566/geforce-drivers/metro-exodus-hdr-dlss-gamma-bug/) but it's exactly what I experience. Turning gamma all the way down only leaves a grey washed out mess. This patched hasn't fixed this, it's not display specific either as people with different brands using different panels of monitors and t.v.'s are both experiencing it. Having a lot of fun otherwise with the game. Really enjoy going Madmax in the desert level.

Wow...., thats....F****&^D up! Looks similar to Win10 Desktop HDR implentation before fixed.

Edit : spelling.

Not sure that analogy helps your point. Obviously it's worked for Hollywood for a hundred years. If the final result is a pretty actress, do we really care how it was achieved? Same thing for DLSS. We just want a good image and good frame rate. I don't care about the method, just the results.
