According to sales figures out of the UK, Far Cry 5’s pink-flowered follow-up isn’t selling nearly as well as its predecessors: charts from across the pond have revealed New Dawn’s physical sales are “massively down,” “just 13 percent of Far Cry 5's opening week total,” and selling “just 25 percent of Primal's week one total." While these numbers do not count digital sales, Eurogamer suggests they couldn’t possibly “plug the huge gap seen here.”

Far Cry New Dawn topped the UK chart this week, but its launch week sales were a far cry (sorry) from those of its predecessors. All of these sales figures relate to boxed copies sold and more people buy digital versions of games now than in 2016, when Primal launched (UK numbers company Chart-Track does not count download sales). But where digital may make up some of the difference, it will not plug the huge gap seen here.

That's not surprising. Ubisoft needs to go back to the drawing board with the franchise. Take a few years and completely redesign it from the ground up in order to provide a unique experience. New Dawn is the 6th version of Far Cry 3 and that game only came out 7 years ago.

Amen to that! The exact same game comes out again and again like clockwork.

I know my buying habits don't mirror everyone else, but my family does not buy physical media. If it's for the PS4 - it's from Sony's online store. My kids lose discs, let friends borrow them (which can result in ruined discs, not returned, etc) - digital ends my headaches in these areas.
For PC, it's mostly Steam for me although I do have a few other digital store fronts. I can't remember the last physical game I purchased...maybe Baldur's Gate 2? It's been a long time...

It's the same game over and over and over and over and over and over. This is what Ubisoft does over and over and over and over and over with most of their franchises.

It's like a beige factory that makes beige paintings to be installed on beige walls in beige homes.

Isn't this the second time they've re-used the same map?

Far Cry 4 / Primal & FC5 / New Dawn?

If so, that's what you get for doing a re-skin.

- I am currently enjoying FC5 but haven't dug into a revision since FC3....

I bought it. It's the only PC game franchise I will pre-order.

Is it a reskin of FC5? Certainly.

Is it a neat take on a pseudo-post apocalyptic continuation story? Absolutely.

Money well spent, in my opinion. And I'm looking forward to the next FC installment.

I'm actually enjoying it much more than FC5, and if I wasn't told I probably never even have noticed that it's the same map. Now I'm nowhere near far enough into the game (2h) to have a final verdict on it, but so far I think it was a steal at €25.

But maybe that's because I skipped both FC4 and Primal, so I haven't yet had the chance to overdose.

The counter-definition of insanity.

Keep doing the same thing over and over and over again, and expecting the same outcome.

Not sure if their comparison can even be close to accurate since it does not include digital sales. Many people have steered away from physical media.

Physical is still the majority when it comes to console sales. Digital sales will make up some of the difference but not a 75% difference.

In other news, they have sold just over 26K physical copies during launch week in Japan, making FCND the #5 best selling game there.

(according to Wikipedia)

Far cry 1 was amazing at the time and I played to the end. Far cry 2 had some fun things like spreading wildfire but was ruined by repetitive instant spawns. Did not finish. Played some of far cry 3 got repetitive few hours in.

Bought new dawn. Definetly improved over previous entries. Open world is still repetative and you can kill 10k bad guys in area wall away and come back everything will be the same. This is a problem in all open world games. Personally using mods to disable respawn in skyrim and fallout really improves immersion for me. Scenes of my precious fights satisfyingly remain. But, i digress.

Got 30 hours into new dawn. Funniest part is when trash roll up with almost funny bad loud music plating and you explode them. Satisfying everytime. Beyond that AI, world interactions, loot and crafting are all been there done that but better.

Loot is ruined because early guns are ridiculously bad. 20 shots from an m249 takes down a deer or bear even if the barrel is rusty. That's not how guns work. The dlc and pre order guns invalidate 2 of only 4 tiers of weapons. The ubiclub credit is obnoxious bullshit. I bought the game full bill. Now stop being dicks. Weapon customization/randomness is nill. Enemy ai and bullet trajectory remains arcade level.

IMO games need:

1. Memorable characters.
2. Satisfying combat.
3. Satisfying world interaction results.
4. Weapon customization and flexibility.

Most ubisoft games failed totally at 3-4. Putting way to much pressure on their decent 1-2.

the FC games try to be unique as far as locations- Africa, Himalayas, Montana cultists, prehistoric era...so can't fault Ubisoft as far as that

That is physical only sales. My understanding is over the past few years many console gamers have embraced digital games. So the overall sales are likely not down that much.

That being said, the game does look "meh". Looks like Far Cry 5 with useless RPG mechanics. At this point they need to go back and change the series up. Also drop the RPG stuff and go back to the roots. FC3 was great, FC4 was also pretty good. FC5 didn't innovate in any useful way and was garbage execution throughout.

I don't know that I would extrapolate anything based just on Physical sales these days.
It makes for good clickbait and that's all that apparently matters.

The fact physical sales versus digital has only continued to trend downward since Primal is a key detail lost on the people shitting on New Dawn.

Even if New Dawn was some 10/10 masterpiece, physical sales would still be lower than Primal because physical sales are simply lower overall than in 2016.

You can gripe if you want but I really like Far Cry 5 New Dawn. Sure it's got problems but what release doesn't lately. Besides jus being fun whether you want to wander around in a large open environment or go Rambo the one thing I really enjoy is it's single player. I have all but quit playing on-line Battlefield series due to almost every room being overrun by hackers.

Yeah, and games we actually want remade like xwing vs tie fighter or Jedi Knight we can’t get lol.

Just knock it down $10 and I will buy it next. First priority was Metro Exodus . . .then New Dawn.
$40 is kind of expensive for DLC so was hoping it would drop by the time I am ready for it.

Those Far Cry games make me laugh my ass off- C4 and remote detonators make cool traffic pileups.

People say they are milking the Far Cry franchise, but I don't mind, I like the Far Cry franchise and I own every copy but Primal. When I buy Madden NFL I expect to play Madden NFL. When I buy a Far Cry game I expect to play Far Cry. The only thing I don't like about Far Cry 2-4 is being killed by eagles, or squirrels, or sea bass. I don't mind a re-skin since the new story exists in the same region.

I'd give the sales time. The game had very little advertising, it didn't have any pre-launch buzz, and most people know that it isn't as big as the original Far Cry 5. I think a lot of people, even a lot of fans of the franchise, are keeping it on 'standby', a game to be played when they've finished up other games. No need to buy it now if you aren't going to play it now, in a month or so it might be on sale.

P.S. "EAGLE! Watch out it's an eagle! EAGLE! RUN!"

P.P.S. "Oh my god, I can't believe I'm alive! Thank you. I was just walking along this dirt road, the same dirt road where no one survives who has ever walked along it because they were either murdered by soldiers, killed by an animal or just run over, when out of the forest a dangerous, man-killing woodchuck attacked me. I am fortunate there was someone with a grenade launcher lurking nearby."

P.P.P.S. I like climbing up towers, I don't know why they took it out of Far Cry 5. It was like a marker for progress. What I did NOT like about Far Cry 5 was the fast-forwarding and skipping of quests and content when you'd achieved the required number of points to clear a region. I don't need video games to skip past portions of the game that I want to play.

Exactly, the only number that's relevant is total sales = physical + digital.

How big is the game compared to FC5? I like myself some FC, but not enough to spend $40 on something that is a small fraction of the size of the last game.

I've only got about 6-8 hours into it so far, and so far it feels about the same size, just going off of the locations and distances, etc.

To each their own I guess. I enjoyed the crap out of FC5 and New Dawn.
I'm gonna go find collectibles!
*gets kidnapped by the crazy chick in a drug haze*

Ok, now I'm gonna go get the collectibles.

*gets kidnapped by crazy dude for brain washing*

Was fine until I finished the first area and the bullshit started. By then my refund window was closed and I just rushed through the game to end it.

After paying full price for FC 1-5 I feel like others have said the franchise is stale and just being milked at this point.

I’ll wait until this goes on sale for 10 bucks and I have no other backlog. Given the sales numbers I won’t have to wait long.

I may be in the minority...but i'm currently playing and enjoying Far Cry Primal atm. I like reading about the stone age, and it's fun (For me at least) to be in that world. :couchpotato:

Far Cry is the series that I've learned to love *only* for its screenshots. "So let me get this straight, I get attacked by troops or animals every 30 seconds no matter what I'm up to.....and I can only hold 60 bullets because I hvae to kill 3 special animals in order to make a skin to carry...one more clip? Does Fuck You translate well to French?".
