Its for the gamers who don't want to pay the extra $70 to $100 more for a RTX card. The RTX 2060 is pushing the limits of RTX because ray tracing enabled crushes frames per second.

On a side note the 1660 seems decent but don't think I'd upgrade from a 1060 to it.

this feels too close to the price of a 2060, not to mention amd has slipped the price of the vega 56 down to match...

i'm with polynyc2, who is this card for?

I can see how good this would be for a pretty decent starting build for those new to pc building. Not an upgrade. But good to start a new system with.

Where? I just checked Newegg. Cheapest Vega 56 they have is $399. If people think AMD can't make money on a $700 Vega 7, how could they possibly make money on Vega 56 selling at under $300.

This is Vega 56/GTX 1070 performance for under $300. It looks like the best midrange deal right now.

Not close enough since I paid almost a $100 more for my Gigabyte RTX 2060 OC :(

This looks to be an awesome mid range card. AMD is toast right now in the midrange. It will be very hard for them to drop the Vega 56 prices below $300 and Nvidia will have cards out next month to battle Polaris as well.

On 2nd thoughts since this is basically a GTX1070 (albeit much more efficient), why not just keep the GTX1070 and call it quits?

Hmm. This is an interesting contender to upgrade to from a GTX 950 2GB. Shaves off eighty bucks or so on meh-meh implemented ray tracing for a 2060. It'll have to give it a ponder.

I upgraded from a GTX 960 to a 980 Ti a couple months back. (same basic upgrade performance-wise)

Worth it man!

So I read a few reviews, this is what im seeing.

1660ti is......
30% faster than a gtx 1060 6gb
20% faster than a rx 590
5% slower than a Vega 56
2% faster than a gtx 1070

*gains 11% more actual gaming performance when overclocked
*Power consumption 120 watts
*is quiet
* runs cool
* better price performance than gtx 1060 or 2060 and the fastest card per price performance.
* super card for 1080p, great card for 1440p

On newegg and other online shops have at least a handful of cards at $279

Nvidia will sell millions of these.

That was more of gimmick on AMDs part to try and pretend Vega 56 would be selling at that price. Apparently it was small volume of one model, from one manufacturer:

Instead, AMD’s competitor for the GTX 1660 Ti looks like it will be the Radeon RX Vega 56. The company sent word last night that they are continuing to work with partners to offer lower promotional prices on the card, including a single model that was available for $279, but as of press time has since sold out. Notably, AMD is asserting that this is not a price drop,

Check Newegg and the lowest priced Vega 56 in stock is ~$400.

Would you think this would be better than my 680? I play games like Squad, Arma, Escape from takarov, etc.

well the most popular GPU according to the Steam stats is the GTX 1060...but this doesn't seem like that big of an upgrade over a 1060...if the 1660 (and RTX 2060) had 8GB VRAM it would be a different story

The Palit StormX looks to be a powerhouse for us ITX users. Paired with a $160 R5 2600, it would be a OneX killer.

It doesn't seem to affect the RTX 2060, a more powerful card, so why would it matter here?

What is not to love about this card? It beats everything in performance/$ except the 'lower midrange' RX580, has amazing perf/power and runs very cool/quiet.

This 1660 Ti is right between the 1070 and 1070 Ti in performance levels. It consistently beats out or destroys the RX 590.

As both are priced at $279 retail, I would expect that AMD has to slash prices on the 590 now. As an RX 590 killer, the GTX 1660 Ti is a straight up assassin. I expect the GTX 1660 non-Ti to crush the RX 580 as well based on these numbers.

Oh yes and let's not forget about one of the best parts of this video card... it SIPS energy. Less than half the power draw of the 590 but 20% more performance? That's a real winner. Your energy bill will thank you as the cost of ownership over time makes this new 1660 Ti a no-brainer pick.

AMD just put the vega 56 at $279 so I expect they will lower the 590 as well

I see rx590 going for $259 right now, so it's a tiny bit cheaper...

The 1660Ti appears to be a solid card outside the 6GB of VRAM, which is why I personally would never pick one up for nearly $300. But that being said, it beats on the RX 590 pretty handily in the mid range which now needs to be priced down at least to $225 to even be considered in this current pricing environment.

The die size seems kind of big to me compared to the GTX1060 in spite of the lower fabrication process,

Wow, great deal on the RX590, its much slower, less overclockable, hotter, noiser, and power hungry than the GTX1660Ti, but hey its $20 dlls cheaper. :D:D:rolleyes::rolleyes:

According to the press deck, this GPU is aimed at owners of the GTX 960.

This card is perfect for my wife's PC. I think she's still on an 8-series card. I'll probably bite.

I didn't say it wasn't a good card...seems it's targeted towards people with GTX 970 and earlier cards...I can't see anyone with a 1060 and up wanting this

I think people with a GTX1060Ti and below would be served well with this upgrade. 30-50% performance increase for only a 10% price hike is a win in my book. Specially in contrast to the RTX line.

Then again I have been enjoying this level of performance with my GTX1070 for a couple of years now.

Why wouldn't someone with a GTX 1060 want this?

HWUB says it its about 40% faster than a GTX 1060. Now people may not upgrade every year, but I can't see many people who wouldn't want a card that's 40% faster.

Price is horrible, just get a 1070 used for much cheaper.

News flash: old used everything costs less than brand new everything.

I see this all the time on car forums as well. It surprises me when people think they are telling people something they don't know, when they eagerly point out that: used products cost less than new ones.

Sapphire Vega56 pulse is £280 on Overclockers UK and has been before the AMD news of a price drop.
Cheapest 1660ti is £260

Would rather get the Vega and undervolt.

This card looks amazing for mid-range at a great price.

Don't think I have a need for one, though I would consider it for my HTPC.

That's because they all sold out... There were plenty of them in stock at that price, but they went like hotcakes. The ones for that price are all 3rd party sellers who are being dickheads trying to price gouge us

To please their shareholders who expect a higher first quarter since last quarters mauling. Their gaming division consists majorly of low budget users and they need profit at all cost. So this was their brilliant strategy..............

First, RX 590 buyers. This embarrasses them.

Second,
Thin-and-light Laptops. Think XPS 15, and their competitors. You can't entice upgrades if laptop makers are selling the same GTX 1050s/1060s they sold customers two years ago.

Once you remove the power gremlins that are those unused RTX/Tensor units, the 1660 Ti has the highest performance/watt of any consumer chip ever made. The only problem is Nvidia didn't really reduce the price all that much when they dropped the 1070 to 6GB ram.

This is another chip that could use a 7nm die shrink to drop the price below $200. Imagine GTX 1070 performance at 75w?
