Star Citizen Developer Calls Real-Time Ray Tracing "A Massive Headache"

By the time this game gets out, officially, those who come after our robot overlords will be here. Oh, and the sun will only be a few years from its final death throes.

Did most of you in here even read? They ARE NOT adding Ray Tracing since it's just too much to do at this point in time. The cost benefit isn't there. Except all I see for replies is "OMFG WHY ARE THEY ADDING RAY TRACING?!, THEY NEED TO GET THEIR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT!!"

Now I wonder how many will just fixate on the part of this comment that's all in caps and disregard the rest...

YOU GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT!!! (I didnt read anything else you wrote except ARE NOT)

20 years from now, the game will have been out for 15 years, and you guys will still be pretending the game isn't out.
Yeah, I fully expect some people to pretend that, The same people who have been pretending for the past 5 years that the alpha is not an incomplete mess full of placeholders, while most features are not even that. Which is what a project in the early prototyping phase looks like.

this game is such a farce it doesn't matter either way.

Is anyone taking this company seriously anymore? I'd suggest getting your game out before saying what you are not going to add to it.

Unless that's their plan and say : " oh, in the end we added it and it delayed us even more. We told everyone so!"

Jokers they are....
I do! I just started playing the alpha and for what little there is to do, it's actually a lot of fun and immersive. They have a long way to go but the transparency I see (roadmap, atv, rtv) as a new backer is actually quite refreshing. Especially amidst all of the absolute trash that gets pumped out of studios lately and you're basically a beta tester at full release for anything anymore. However, I can definitely understand early backers being pissed off about what was initially promised but I also don't think it was expected it to be that successful which opened up more possibilities. Def cool hanging out with your friends flying spaceships around and seeing what you can get into but it can also get expensive quick if you want your own ships. So far the community in game seems very cool about spawning any ship you want so you can cruise around and explore. go ahead, light me on fire :) lol I'm diggin this game so far.

it's the internet echo chamber :) most that post the incoherent comments probably never had interest and will never have interest in a project like this. It's just an easy target to get people fired up who are passionate about it... or who invested a shit ton of their money towards it.

Look back at all the missed release dates, features cut from patches that were already 6+ months late, and look at what CR promised "transperency" wise. To put it bluntly, CIG isnt actually transparent because 90% of what they state is a lie one way or another.

*Shrug* Not like there is ever actually going to be a "game" released, ever. I do not care if they add or do not add something, this game is vaporware, anyways.

All this negativity here, I just want to say, "Punish me more sempai."

They've already adopted a lot of technologies as is and it looks and feels, even in its current state, amazing. The March patch is adding the new flight model and a city planet, Arc Corp, be jaded all you want, but 3 planets (two you can land on, one gas giant) and all their moons and asteroid to fly around or on is jaw dropping and the last round of optimizations made it the smoothest its ever been. Not to mention, you can now pick up most ships in game.

You know as well as I do that there is no game to buy. (7 or so years later, approximately.) Fact is, it is a bottomless pit to throw money into, nothing more.

Edit: This is coming from a person who loved the Wing Commander Series, including Prophecy.

I honestly don't care about any of that shit and knew absolutely nothing about this game until 2 months ago. My comment was purely subjective and from my own perspective as a new backer, answering the question "is anyone taking this company seriously anymore?". When I decided to start playing the alpha, I was fully aware by common sense of exactly what I was getting myself into. But it seems like they have their shit in motion at this point and a released game is certainly coming at some point. Maybe we'll even see Squadron 42 next year, i'm optimistic because right now i'm having fun and that's what it's all about. It's all humans behind this never-been-done-before project so i'm not surprised to hear about the early disaster of communication and promises. As long as it feels like they're headed in the right direction, i'm ok with that.

Nice try, you wont be able to sell it here.
We see through you.

I'm expecting one of Roberts' letters any time now dismissing everything Parry said and claiming that they were actually intending to implement RT in SC long before it became the latest trend. RT is already supported in the latest Unreal Engine preview release, there's no way Roberts would ever allow his revolutionary, industry-defining opus to be behind the curve and not support what will likely be a common place technology, however many years from now when (if) they make it to a 1.0 release version.

After all, how would he capitalise on it if he wasnt to feature creep it!
