I was playing PUBG Friday night and my cpu just shut off. I thought it was my 3770k because I had it overclocked, but after trying a 3570k it still wouldn't power on. I tried ram 1 by 1, different psu, different gpu, and no luck. I can only guess it's my Sabertooth z77 that bit the dust, as I don't have another to try it on. In the process I accidentally sat my case on my 3770k, then turned it. So after I realized it my 3770k was messed up. No biggie, as I planned to upgrade my system, but I was going to give it to my nephew to upgrade his e8500. He'll have to deal with a 3570k now, lol.

On to my upgrade. I thought about going with a 9700k, but not sure if it's worth it over an 8700k, as they are pretty much even in gaming. I basically only play PUBG atm.. I want something decent and don't mind spending around $1,000 so it can last me as long as my 3770k build. I'm going to upgrade to an m2 ssd while I'm at it, to give my other 512 ssd's a break. Does this look decent?

Build:
- 9700k
- Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB DDR4 3200MHz C16
- Asus Prime Z390-A Motherboard LGA1151
- 1TB Samsung 970 EVO m2 SSD

Is it worth waiting (OOS ATM) and spending $50 more for the 9700k over the 8700k? Should I consider an AMD 2700x? My monitor is a Benq XL2411P 144Hz.

From what I can gather is that the Intel's would be better off, but the AMD seems to have a better upgrade path. I been out of the loop but I think I read the 3700 series would be compatible still.

Hoping to order something later today, but I can wait till tomorrow. I'm having PUBG withdrawals, so that 8700k and 2700x are looking tempting, lol

Thanks all.

I doubt you would notice a difference between an 8700k and a 9700k in a blind test of playing pugb.
