Paul from Red Gaming Tech claims AMD is launching its next-generation Ryzen 3000 “Matisse” processors and the X570 platform on July 7. Navi may also land on this date, although his source is less certain about the GPU, echoing recent reports of TSMC unable to meet 7nm demand. Intel will counter with Comet Lake parts, but Paul suggests it will be an uphill battle for sure, as AMD has the core count advantage.

I do wonder (as a bit of speculation) if AMD will opt to hold back the 16 core processors initially, both because of yields and also to sandbag and then counter Comet Lake with a 16 core Matisse part. So essentially 12 core Ryzen 3000 will fight the 8 core I9-9900K, with the 10 core Comet Lake having the displeasuring of facing the might of a 16-core Zen 2 Matisse. This is just a possible scenario though, and nothing my source has said, but would be about the worst case for customers (I don’t think AMD will choose to do this though).

I'm sitting with a 2700x right now and this does excite me. Then I remember there is no reasonable upgrade for my RX 580 under 300 right now.

Fingers crossed Navi is released close to this time as well.

Nice but, i will stick with my 1700 and 2600 instead. I will not upgrade anything until 2021 and maybe not even then.

Edit: Oh, and my 2200G

Very excited to see how these fare. They're probably a better fit for me than Intel's lineup right now with the higher core counts/price points in comparison.

I would guess:

4C/4T Ryzen 3 3200G - $99 (Zen+ APU)

4C/8T Ryzen 3 3400G - $149 (Zen+ APU)

6C/12T Ryzen 5 3600 - $199

6C/12T Ryzen 5 3600X - $229 (close to Core i7-8700K in performance)

8C/16T Ryzen 7 3700 - $299

8C/16T Ryzen 7 3700X - $329 (close to Core i9-9900K in performance)

12C/24T Ryzen 9 3800X - $499

This is, of cause, assuming that Intel didn't drastically lower its prices by then.

I wonder if the 12 core is going to be 399 and the 16 core at 499.

Also I would not count on Intel lowering their prices. Ryzen has been out for a couple years and competing well and... Intel has maintained or raises their prices.

Why would AMD sell it for $399 when AMD can sell it for $499?

After all, it would already have 50% more cores than the Core i9-9900K at around the same price.

I'm looking forward to building a new PC, its been a while. Now if only I could find a nice looking mATX case that wasnt garbage. :(

Well 07-07 i can probably wait for in getting a new GFX card, i can buy more RAM and new case to tie me over until then, but if they can stick it at that date it will be August 1 or later before the stock hit shelves in Denmark.

So can we expect for not least games to see better support for multi core in the future ? that seem to lag a bit nowadays.

IPC is still king on the desktop. Core count only matters in workloads that are embarrassingly parallel.

Epyc is a great server chip though - really hope we go that route for our next round of ESX hosts.

Man, I hope so. The specs looks great. I'm keeping a spare x470 mobo just for this!

I'm wondering why they skipped the 3800 non-X though

Just assumptions like everyone else. If leaks and rumors are true we are looking at 16/12/8 cores and less. If that is the case I would assume 16=499, 12=399, 8=330. I can’t see a 12 core for 499 and a 16 core desktop at 600+ since that clashes with HEDT 1920/2920 pricing.

Now if 12 cores is it, well it will sell at 399 or 499, both sides across CPUs and GPUs have shown to buy anything the other side puts out.

Again assumptions.

Threadripper is a different market. It has quad-channel memory and more PCIe lanes.

I expect there to be an overlap.

12C/24T Ryzen 9 3800X - $499

16C/32T Ryzen 9 3900X - $699

I am not surprised. It would just have two chiplets with 8 cores each.

AMD could just launch 16C/32T Ryzen 9 3900X later to screw with Intel when it launches the 10C/20T Comet Lake.

It's in AMD's spirit lately to try to one-up on Intel.

Wouldn't AMD keep the 16C and higher parts as part of their Threadripper platform though?

I don't think there will be a 16 core part for AM4, just doesn't make much sense. I may be wrong.

We shall see, glad to see AMD push the market forward, PCIe 4.0 and potentially a 16/32 mainstream platform chip will be amazing. Interested in seeing how memory speeds/performance scales, those two channels are gonna be pushed.

If it clocks better I wouldnt mind a 16 core quad thread part to replace my 1950x

Why not? The chiplets are 8 cores, according to all the rumors and pictures the AM4 parts can have 2 chiplets, so 16 core parts would probably make sense at some point.

However, I could see them not releasing the 16 core on the release of Zen 2 and instead maximizing the output of fully capable Epyc & Threadripper chips if TSMC doesn't have the initial capacity available to supply all 3 lines.

I honestly dont think we will be seeing 16 core part all at once. AMD will likely sandbag it. No need to release it when you barely have competition at 12 core. We will probably see it later in the year.

fingers crossed MS fixes those core scheduling issues by the time this rolls out, otherwise a lot of those cores are going to be pretty gimped.

Fair fair... seriously though. If nothing else more consumer 12+ core chips should push MS to properly fix their scheduler.

Agreed. Wouldn't be surprised if AMD holds off on launching higher core count Ryzen 3 CPUs until its fixed, assuming MS plans on doing so sometime this year.

Been waiting to upgrade from my Core i7-2700k forever. July can't come soon enough.

You would lose quad-channel memory, which is important for keeping the cores fed with memory bandwidth

The hint and implication is that it would go into the same socket as my 1950x was in, and therefor I would still have quad channel memory.

This is just so funny the look on his face when he announces that his confirmation of his source being right and he trusts them when he announced the October Navi delay, that look suddenly is on his face now when he announces that no no it might be July (7th even to make it valid)with some sob story that TSMC is flexible enough to produce Navi. from this point on you get to hear him explain it.

Never heard so much nonsense from a "tech" youtuber and the best thing he has to walk back his earlier trusted source :).

If you don't know what you are doing online you just report everything and that is just what Paul does without any hesitation that his sources use him to get the message across when they need him, so when Radeon VII launched Navi is delayed and when the bulk of the cards are gone, you guessed it you get this message ...

Who knew :)

Ha, I'm holding out using a i7-2600k
Same here - my i7-2600k still gets the job done. I was originally planning on a May upgrade, but am definitely going to wait and see what AMD and Intel launches. If I were building a system today, I'd probably go with the 2700x. Microcenter has pretty good combo prices.
I'd kind of like to wait until Navi is launched so I can figure out which GPU to go with. I've decided my max budget for a GPU is going to be $400. I'm not overly excited about what that buys today. (I have a 970 right now and am happy with it for 1080 gaming - an upgrade should get me 1440 gaming or its not really an upgrade)

Now i dont feel so bad about getting my 2600x for $180 last week. Even if it launches in july, it will be 30-60 days before i can buy them anywhere, even at retail prices. Odds are the 3600x will cost as much, or a bit more, than the 2600x $230 launch price. Combine that with a 15% performance boost, and you get what, 15% more performance for a 30% price premium? Id be better off getting a 2700 for $230 now...

Still GG for the poor mans thread ripper 16 core, that WILL be a hot seller.

Personally id be happier if they just doubled the single core speed, and made them 4 core/8 thread...

Man, you really are hardcore. I only have a 2500u. Planning on getting rid of all that Intel shit this year. Haven't upgraded my gaming rig CPU in 8 years now.

My 2500k is fine but it's time for more cores.
