I ran a few benchmarks... GTX 1080 ti FTW3 VS RTX 2080 ti FTW3 @ 3440x1440

Thank you from another ultrawide user. The RTX 2080 Ti performs well, but I can't rationalize spending $1300+ for a RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 when I paid $750 for my GTX 1080 Ti FTW3.

Definitely! I use to run 1080 ti SLI.. might have to go back to that.
 
From the framerates, with a VRR monitor I would most likely see the same gaming experience from both cards. Framrates are already good enough in other words for the 1080 Ti.

If the extra features were effectively used is where I would start thinking of upgrading for games.
 
I saw around a 25-30% bump going from 1080ti to 2080ti @ 3440x1440. The new NVENC chip and the new versions of OBS designed to take advantage of it has really impressed me. I never saw NVENC video quality like this out of my 1080ti...

Im curious about this, from a technical standpoint does ultrawide 1440p compare exactly to 2k or is it 4k or somewhere inbetween? I mean as far as GPU impact. I'll watch the videos in a few minutes.

Along with the Ultrawide I also have a 2K & 4K display and 3440x1440 is definitely harder to push than just your standard 2K monitor.

In terms of pure pixel count - 4k is 8,294,000 pixels, 1080p is 2,073,600, 1440p is 3,686,400, and 1440 ultrawide is 4,953,600.

Ultrawide adds roughly 34% more pixels than 1440p.
 
Sorry off topic but what are those FPS OSD/monitor people are using on the top left of the screen? Been watching more of these YouTube videos and everyone seems to use it!

It feels like we're in a weird transitional time in GPUs and Displays.

the 34" UW screens seem OK, but I want a bit more FOV.

The super-ultrawide monitors like the Samsung CRG-9 (5120x1440) can run as 2 seperate displays.

I'm wondering if I could run 1080Ti SLI and then run that display like a 2 screen NV Surround array.

'mightcould scale better than regular SLI on a single screen....
 
I have a regular 1080ti card and would like to upgrade to a regular (black edition) 2080ti. Any reason why I should avoid the BLACK model and get a XC or FTW model? Thanks!

P.S. EDIT: Actually there's no BLACK edition available at BHPHOTO so I'm leaning toward the XC ULTRA model. Any recommendations? Being that the XC ULTRA is not DOUBLE SLOT but 2.75, should it fit any "regular" motherboard? Any known problems? Thank you a lot.
 
As much as I would love to pull the trigger on a new gpu I still can't beat the value of what I've got now. These streaming quality Captures are impressive though.
 
Thanks for the benches but the price of the performance boost is not worth it imo.
 
I'm still morally oppoesd to buying cards for 1300 bucks. We keep letitng them get away with pushing stuff higher and higher
 
I know this is not exactly on topic, but here is some Apex footage I grabbed earlier today while testing something. This is with a 2080ti, max setting except shaddows, and is being captured using NVENC. The 5 minute file was just shy of 2gb. Frames capped using rivatuner at 97fps.

Yes, I know I am absolutely terrible at this game. I need practice.

 
yeah skipping a gen is never a bad idea if you have top tier card unless more so with this gen unless you REALLY want ray tracing or want to AI stuff with it but if thats the case you know this already
