I can't find this on search engine, say I don't want it anymore, just want to stick w/ A new pair of stereo speaker instead

how to remove the 5.1 settting in win 7?

I know it's in the sound settings- but I haven't had a Win 7 desktop in years, so a screenshot is out of the question ;). Most of the stuff has changed in 10, just look around, it's in there.

Something like Control panel->Sound->Select speakers->set speaker setup to stereo. you cant "Remove" 5.1 i dont believe but you can set stereo as the default.

Piggy-backing on Cornholio16, just go to the Sound settings in Control Panel and configure your audio output device as a stereo device, that's it. Games will detect that and output stereo, most media should also automatically output stereo. Some multi-channel media may still try to output 5.1/7.1, but sometimes you can configure things, ffdshow for example, to mix any output to your speaker configuration.

I did that long ago, many times. The only problem, the next time I boot up, it default back to 5.1

so what happen is, when I view a video at CNN, there is no sound

My question would be. Are you plugged into the right audio port on your computer if plugged into the green for front left/right you should get left/right audio no matter the speaker settings. Unless you have sound software that has remapped audio channels.

sounds like an system configuration error. what are you using for audio output?

I have the sound blaster ZxR, and the output of that sound card goes to a pair of power speaker M-audio m3-8.

it's actually 1 of the members here who recommend that to me, so I actually bought 2 pair, 1 for the PC room, then 2 yr. later, 1 for the workout room

Where, on the ZxR, are your speakers connected? Once you set it to stereo, it should stay, then again, years ago I've run into Creative software/drivers not saving settings because of Windows fast boot.

they are connected to the 3.5mm Line out 1 Jack (rear L/R) and it has been for the past 4 yr.

Now, when the PC was first set up, there is a video card, just like everyone else. Needless to say, the video card has HDMI output, and I do connect the HDMI to a Pioneer 5.1 receiver. But that's just to view video from the PC to the Pioneer and from the Pioneer receiver to a 60" Screen. The sound is still coming out of the M-Audio stereo R/L next to the PC

The Pioneer itself, does have 6 speakers connected to it, but that's for using Blu-ray player
