My issue is that I don't want to have more than one client. I don't want my payment information on file with more than one company, and I don't want to have multiple accounts. This just creates an annoying fragmented landscape, and adds a multitude of security and tracking concerns.

I was annoyed enough at Valve's DRM. I don't want a bunch more of them.

Opinion is opinion of course but the entire entertainment industry is this way. Movie theaters only allowed to show certain movies from certain movie houses, TV stations only allowed to play certain shows, Cable channels are married to certain content hosts. etc etc. Epic is not the first new launcher to do this, Blizzard, Origin, GFWL, UPlay are all exactly the same. Same example of Amazon Prime, Netflix, HBO and all the rest. They all have separate interfaces with separate account holder info. The only reason for this topic is because the publisher pulled out of Steam short notice and people are unreasonably upset as it somehow suggests unfairness. Thats it. Epic is no worse than Steam, Blizz, UPlay or any other. Competition is good, bring on more.

The big difference - and you're obviously aware of this but seemingly just here to argue - is that Valve doesn't pull any behind the scenes bullshit telling publishers not to sell on other marketplaces.

And I've never heard of Valve bribing or otherwise coercing a publisher to stop selling a game on another store, let alone right before a game launches after it was listed on another store for a year and a half.

If it was only available on Steam before, that was the publisher's choice, and it was only because the publisher hadn't decided where else to sell it.

I hear what you're saying and I don't want to fuel flames - but - Steam had the joys of monopoly in this arena for a while. I don't recall what challenger they had when they really shot to fame with CS, Half Life and other exclusives. Even if you bought the disc version of the game, Steam was required.

This market has razor thin margins as shown by how many publishers have bit the dust and Epic taking a smaller bite out of that margin will cause this new ripple effect in the market. I do NOT agree with what 4A and Epic did to Steam/GOG and other suppliers with the short notice pull out but I can understand the thinking of going exclusive to Epic to offer the $49 price versus the standard $59.

Begun, the launcher/publisher wars. has. /Yoda

I'm all for competition. Offer the same titles on all stores, and allow the stores to compete on their own merits. That's competition.

Exclusives are anti-competitive, and only a hop, skip and a jump away from a monopoly.

Funny how you’re trying to bash me for not parroting what is literally spewed out in every Metro Exodus thread since the EGS switch. Heaven forbid that I don’t want to derail yet another thread and actually talk about the game instead of the stupid platform it’s on. Go bitch in the threads that were specifically created for the topic.
It reminds me of arguments I heard 10 years ago, when ppl defended micro transactions and f2p, and today ppl cry about it.
This over bearing positivity, ppl dont bother thinking about any of it, enough with these emotional reactions.

Just a few weeks ago the game was only available on Steam. https://www.gamerevolution.com/guid...tem-requirements-what-are-the-pc-requirements

"As of right now Metro Exodus will be available on PC via Steam, and will not be available on any other digital clients such as Epic Games Store or Origin."

I don't remember the outcry when the game was only available on Steam.
Steam never signed an exclusivity deal with 3rd party publisher, if the statement was there, then it was the publisher's choice, besides if you are invited to week long conference with paid housing, there is a difference between having a 5 star hotel and camping tent, especially when forced to camp, yes one is ground to complain about.
Again this is not about the game, but about Epic's policy, if ppl accepts this, they will regret it in 5 to 10 years from now, when going back or backlashes won't matter anymore.
Sorry for the double post

I've currently got Steam, Origin, and GOG and I don't mind having another. I was considering Epic until their crappy support emails to me which couldn't even answer 2 questions regarding Metro. It didn't help when I started researching them and saw many postings about their horrible customer support across nearly a dozen or more different sites. I did come across one site that clarified that it was Koch media that was responsible for the move and not 4a games. I feel these people in the video, their professional future is being jeopardized by some half-baked decision that's sugar coated to their benefit.

As others have stated, they could have left it on Steam and also had the discount on Epic but I guess it shows how little confidence they have in Epic to provide a 'choice'. Part of the problem too is that if you're going to try to be a new player in the field then match what's already there when you step on it, don't just say we're new and will get better.

Regardless of the outroar, the video of the game play in this video looked inviting to play. I am glad I will be experiencing it firsthand soon. Of course, I am older and much wiser about these things. I just want to play a game at the lowest possible price. All the politics dont really concern me.

I agree. It looks like a great game.

I just hope it sells very poorly in the first year, so future publishers think twice before doing something like this.

For years we've been trying to get people to vote with their wallets and stop publishers and developers from doing things we feel is detrimental to the games we play. DLC, pre-orders, microtransactions, etc.

Thus far it has never worked because gamers have not had the discipline to put their money where their mouths are. Hopefully this time it will be different.

I want Deep Silver to feel severe pain so this serves as a warning to any other publisher who tries something like this.

Agreed.

IMO, Steam was a monopoly and now the separate launchers are breaking that up. Epic taking less of the top of every sale is a big incentive that Steam will have to respond to.

I agree that having multiple platforms that offers all titles would be ideal. Until the Movie, TV, streaming and carrier industry also does the same thing, it will never happen.

this thread is not about how you were or were not slighted because Epic will have exclusive sales rights and ...
