Hi guys, I'm running an 6600k at 4.5ghz and a EVGA 2080ti. The only two games I'm playing right now are Battlefield and BO4, BO4 does fine with my CPU usually in the 90's but with BfV being far more CPU intensive it gets pinned at 100% usage the whole time. I play as close to 165hz as I can but usually its 130fps-180fps at 1440p depending on game.

Looking at the graphics card it also sits very close to or at full usage for both. Am I right at the cusp of it bottlenecking or is it? I can try to squeeze some more speed out of the CPU but I haven't tried because this is pretty stable.

I looked around on forums and there aren't too many people running an old 6600k with a 2080ti probably for this reason so I don't have much to go off of. Some people say absolutely yes and some say it won't.

This page may be right up your alley.

In short, 4c/4t will bottleneck at 1080p and 1440p on BFV. 4k -- not so much. 4c/8t will give you quite a few more frames at the lower resolutions. At this point in time, 6c+ isn't a necessity YET.

that cpu is a huge bottleneck for multiplayer games with the 2080ti, in single player mode you should be fine.

man not to pick on you or anything. I am surprised you are still running a 6600k but manage to throw so much money on a 2080ti? lol. Gotta balance it out. If you wanna play at those high FPS you have to give it the CPU power to feed it. Not saying go out and get a 9900k. But would recommend waiting for zen 2 to see how it fairs up but even 9700k or 8700k should be fine.

With 4 core you would have to likely clock it as high as you can. Close to 5ghz would probably give you decent boost. But with a 2080ti I would strongly consider doing some other updates to balance it out.

if you look at his monitor specs and he is targeting 165hz so he needs to feed the 2080ti. Needs to balance the system out even in single player.

Just got rid of my 6600K 4.5. Everything is playing better, loading faster, feels faster. I was skeptical, but the difference is real.

I mean, I understand where you are coming from

But maybe he doesn't want to go thru the pain and suffering of a new mobo, CPU, unhooking everything, replacing the guts AND reloading the OS and starting over.

"old" medium range CPU with modern top of the line cards
with a setting of increasing workload on the CPU

yes you will hit a CPU bottleneck

The benefits just outweigh the time spent on replacing mobo and cpu. If one thinks like that they be stuck with the same system forever. Lol. Plus it’s not required to redo the OS. Especially if he goes from intel to intel.

I was skeptical too, I went from 4790k to 9900k and difference in multiplayer games is just unreal, something you cant see from graphs. I no longer ever watch how much fps im getting, everything is always butter smooth, no more sudden fps drops and stuttering.

I was skeptical due to all the single player benchmarks, it doesn't show much improvement going from 4790k to 9900k, but I was told to ignore those meaningless and useless flyby benchmarks with nothing going on in it for the cpu, and go for a new system, I was worried at first, didn't want to drop all that money for nothing, but it was worth every penny.

enjoy it.

Exactly. I haven't tried out an single player games, but in MP the difference is incredible

Makes sense. I think while 9900k can be best but I think even 9600k is just fine. Between 6 and 8 core difference might be minimal but I have seen 4 core vs 6 core does make a difference these days.

8700k, 9600k, and 9700k are all fine for today, but I wanted to be future proof and in the long run I will be saving money because when games need more than 6 cores and 12 threads I wont have to spend money on a new motherboard and cpu.

New consoles are around the corner, they will pack 8 cores and 16 thread cpu's, I will not have any issues with my 9900k running next-gen console ports.

True personally I am waiting for zen 2. That's when I will be upgrading for sure. Likely 12 core zen 2 chip minimum.

Same here, I went from a 6600k at 4.6ghz to a 2600x and while the avg/max fps are the same (or worse but only playing at 60Hz) the minimum fps and general smoothness is worth it.
For a single player experience, the last assassin's creed game was pretty bad with frame time with the 6600k and while at times the 2600x did worse it was by a lot a better experience.
I still need to put my AIO cooler on that 2600x for better boost after a while it was running a 4050mhz with stock cooler but start at 4250mhz until the stock heatsink can't keep up.
4c, 4t is just not doing it anymore for some games, others will still be happy with it though.
