Hey guys

I'm in the market for a new GPU and been googling a lot these last few days, which obviously included results from this forum, but discussions usually veered into 4k territory which is not a concern for me.

Right now I'm still on a 1680x1050 monitor but will likely switch to 1080p or 1440p sometime later this year. I'm looking for a card that will be able to run newer games at native res and reasonably high settings for the next 2-3 years at 60 fps. I honestly don't have much interest in raytracing and have always resorted to turning off advanced lighting effects if it saved a few frames here and there - mostly a result of me sticking with nvidia's x60 line for nearly a decade now. My cpu is i5 4670k @ 4.4, in case that influences the gpu choice.

From my search the RTX 2060 seems like a good candidate, but even if I had an actual interest in raytracing I'm not sure the card is powerful enough to leverage it in newer games a year or two from now (at 1080p 60 fps), so it seems like a waste to pay extra for a feature that I'll likely not use.

I've also seen the specs on 1660 ti and people speculate it will be on par with 1070 gtx performance wise, which sounds ok but considering the high price of GPUs we have here relative to the MSRP - I believe RTX 2060 msrp was listed at 350$ but costs ~400-420€ here (450-480$) - I'm afraid the difference in price won't be enough to justify buying it over the more powerful 2060.

I'm completely unfamiliar with ATI cards, but considering I might be making use of Freesync in the future I'm very interested in them, especially since Nvidia's support of FS doesn't cover many monitor models for now.

I am mainly interested in newer cards as I've had terrible luck with them in the last 2 years (2 that I had on load died), but a friend might be replacing his 1080 for a 2080 and if that happens I'll probably pick up his card for ~350$. Still, given my recent gpu history I'd prefer a 2 year warranty over ~20-25% more performance.

I'd appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks.

edit: Forgot to mention, I'm currently using a 960 4gb.

I would recommend a Vega 64 with 3 free games for $409 over any 2060 card right now on Newegg. With HBCC and 8GB, ram limitations may never be an issue for a long period of time. Plus Vega 64 is 1080 level performance which should be better than the 2060.

don't go for the 2060. your paying for a lot that you will not be able to use. I would really wait for the 1660 ti to come out. Makes MUCH more sense for what you looking for. If you can't wait then the 1080 used is a good option. followed by the V64 (just barely, depends on who you ask) and then by 580x/590x (both are still good 1080p cards and a damn good value at the moment. )

If you can wait I would. If nothing else you might be able to save some cash.

That is a fairly nice deal. I would just wonder about the noise from a reference card. Might not be a problem for the OP (esp if he uses head sets)

The RTX2060 pretty much performs like a GTX1080 for a much lower price, runs cooler and draws less power. Think of RTX and DLSS as an added bonus.

Vega64 is also a good option, it also performs close to the GTX1080 but much more power humgry.

if the 1660 TI wasn't coming out I would agree here. (mostly) The 1080 is still a pretty good card that does outperform the 2060 (If I recall its neck and neck with the 1070ti) but with the 1660ti coming out the 2060 is dead to me as an option unless Nvidia does something stupid with the pricing.
