MSI - Threadripper [H]ardBox Updates

Very cool, pun intended. Quite the amount of detail of what you're trying to achieve with it. Case looks nice too. Interesting that the 6 pin was ultimately for show. Congratulations on this stage and can't wait to see the specs for the custom loop when it's done. Will you do an update video for that?

That FLIR is probably the best way to test a new build. if y'all can I would like to see that used on all reviews so cool to see all the hot spots and what not

That is the plan. I may wait for 7nm TR. I wanted to put a 2990WX in this build, but till they work out the issues with X.264/5 encode, there is no reason for me to install one. I am told by AMD that the issue is being worked on my Microsoft now.

Dam I thought that was 139C due to the target being ahead of the numbers. You had me tripping there for a second.

I like the over all aesthetic of the build looks like a factory of the future, a little modeling with those polymer sheets to add in some smoke stacks/factory look and a assembly line like grid pattern and this would be hot fire.

I want one, but I have a Galaxy S9. :( Or will it work? I'm confused.

Haha, I remember the first complaints about that desk was back when you had crossfired 290X's under there. And youre still fighting with it! I say youre due for a desk modification to allow for air to escape upwards, taking the tabletop off and making some slits along the back of it all the way along will help to get rid of all that hot air and wont fuck up the look of the desk if done correctly. Or perhaps start with a small fan under the desk to help move air at least, honeywell makes a great little one. Those two in combo would fix much of the issue!

Thought the Xpander was a sound or video card til I read the article.

It seems the 6-pin in on there for no other reason than to make this look like a video card....which is exactly what MSI said their goal was with its aesthetic design.

Really MSI?

Such a desk modification would probably only cost about $10k

I use the https://www.thermal.com/ seek thermal compact xr personally, at the time was better than the FLiR for range, pro is comparable to the new FLiR too. Also have some old ass giant ones from state auctions, which are probably the same resolution but were cheap and cool to have.

I would like my case on the floor, or a little box, it should then vent out the bottom and all that nice warm air should be channeled in under my computer table so my feet could be nice and warm as i am cheap with the expensive heating in my apartment.
Actually bar a few days all i have used for heat this winter are candles, and they make the higher levels plenty hot,,,,,, maybe i just need a sealing fan to blow all the hot air up there down to my feet.

Then again most of the time what i do could be handled by a little NUC or something, not often the 12 cores in my PC really get to work their little asses off.

Haha. 10K is good for a desk. ;)

I wish I had your money, I'd just burn my own. 10k on a computer desk is rediculous (and just a modification at that) . But champagne tastes and caviar dreams must be fufilled for the rich folks I suppose! 10k much better spent elsewhere in the house, bathrooms, kitchen etc...haha anyways forget it I was only tryin to help with the heat issue he's had starting back in 2013 or so. Love the peanut gallery comments though. Anyways back on topic, I think I might grab a FLIR when I see a sale next, seems handy for a lot of things!

Old joke actually. Figured you have been here long enough! I would not even spend 1K on a desk.

Sometimes it is required. When clients walk in, they have certain expectations. The office must fit the billing rate - it's a thing.

LOL!

love the attention to detail with how clean and organised it looks.:)
I still need to go in and tidy it up a bit. I think I am going to buy a custom 24-pin cable so I can lay it flat through that partially blocked pass-through. I really wish TT would have pushed those out a bit for EATX boards..

How do you like the FinalMouse? I've been contemplating trying to get one, but not sure if its worth the money and effort to try and get one.
I like it, but I pretty much like any mouse I use, so I am probably not the person to ask. One of the reasons we don't review mice. :) I do however like how your hand stays cool on it since it has the cut-outs. Very light too if that is your thing.

Get some wheels on that bish Kyle! Had em now for 14 years (and the same case lol) and would never operate a heavy case without them, makes moving it a breeze if you want to reposition stuff.

I'd be worried about accidentally rolling mine, and yanking some cable or another.

True, depends on case design and mine is a chubby old steel school double wide lol. But if you put all the spinning rust in the bottom and had wide enough wheel mounts with lockable wheels you could make most cases wheeled. Seen some pretty narrow custom road cases done with wheels for touring too. But weight all down the bottom, e.g. a 2kW+ smoke machine in the bottom and lighter stuff up top.

Yeah, I did that back about 20 years ago myself when we used to pack towers to LAN parties. The furniture slides work perfectly on this hard wood floor. There is not room for using casters, with the furniture slides on there, I literally cannot put my finger between the top of the case and the leading edge of the desk.

Last time i was purchasing new it was between Asus or MSI....and since my last board lasted 10 years so i stayed with Asus.....You make me wonder if i should of went the MSI route instead. The fact you picked it for your own means a lot. I hope you do another build like this one but in Mid size or smaller case....
I use an MSI x399 setup - I am happy with it. I don't have the MEG though.
