Just sorting out a new build- ASUS Z930-A, 9700K and a 970EVO NVMe M.2 drive.
Running some benchmarks after getting everything up and running, it looks like my old 840EVO kicks the 970EVO ass.
Possible driver issue, BIOS issue, defective 970?
It's only running PCIEx2, because I'm using all 6 SATA channels, but it still doesn't seem that it should be crushed by the 840EVO.
Thanks!

Sorry about that!
C drive is the 970EVO, F is the 840EVO:

2 is definitely either using some kind of ram acceleration or it's just broken. If I remember correctly Rapid Dram was a thing when the 840 evo came out.

The Samsung driver had built in caching in the older drives. Also C: is the OS drive while F: is just free-balling so there's that.

Did you install the Samsung NVME driver?

840 EVO is definitely using a RAM cache. That will be faster than any SSD you can buy, but your cache space is pretty small.
You can add cache to your C drive too if you want and get something like this:

dvsman: Yes, according to Samsung Magician the 970 is using the NVME driver.
The 840 has Rapid Mode enabled, but Rapid Mode is not available for the 970.

rapid mode is ram cache, and is just a basic bundled software from samsung.
Just get some other software and add a cache to the 970 evo as well.
