Anyone have any ideas here?

About a week after I had UbreakIfix replace my first gen Pixel battery, all of a sudden my phone is experiencing intermittently shuts down and restarts.

It appears to be resulting from a stuck side power button. Occasionally when used the phone will force shutdown and restart, like it would if you held the power button for a while. Then it apparently stays that way and it can result in several restarts in a row which looks like a boot loop but isn't. If I tap the power button it appears to come back and can boot up.

So, I am not sure if this is results t from what UbreakIfix did, or coincidental, since it is intermittent it is tough to tell when exactly it started. I only realized I had a problem for real about a week after the repair. I could bring it back to them and ask them to take another look...

Other than that, is there any way to easily clean out these switches? The tolerances are so tight, there isn't much of a gap araroubd the button to blow air in. Any ideas?

I'd appreciate any thoughts.

If I were to guess, they screwed it up while pulling out the subframe. It's just not an easy phone to work on (I found out the hard way). It probably wasn't perfectly aligned or something when they put it back together after replacing the battery.

You can ask them about it, but I have no idea about their customer service.

Well, I'm going to knock on wood here, but the problem has been gone for two days now and has not recurred. Maybe they got some adhesive in the switch and I finally wore it off?

If it starts happening again, I'll definitely talk to them, but for now it seems OK.

How long did it take you to get a new battery off of them? I was looking at doing the same thing with a Pixel XL I picked up cheap.

They stock the first gen Pixel batteries because they are becoming that age now when everyone is replacing them, and they are Googles authorized service location. They don't always have sufficient stock though, so they could be out. Its probably a good idea to call in advance and ask if they have them. The one near my work was out, but the one closer to home had them.

If they have them in stock, you just walk in, they do a quick assessment of the "before" condition (presumably to make sure they don't have fraudulent claims of broken phones) and they take it right in and work on it. Before they realized they didn't have the batteries, the store near my work asked me to give them two hours to be on the safe side, as it is a tricky phone to work on. The store near home asked me to give them one hour, and they got it done on time. (Maybe they were less busy or had more staff?)

You could wait if you wanted to. Both locations had a waiting room with a TV and a couple of chairs, but it would likely be boring. I ran some errands and came back.

The whole process was painless and professional. They give you 30 days of warranty with the job. Only downside is the pricetag, which was $79.99, but I blame HTC's design for that, more than I do ubreakIfix.

Thanks. I appreciate the insight. I got all the pieces to do it myself on my OG Pixel, but cracked the screen when I was taking it off. Turned a $12 job into a $60 job. I think I'm going to let someone else do it for the Pixel XL I have.

Yeah, I watched the ifixit videos when I first started having battery problems and quickly determined that even though I consider myself fairly capable, this is one I'd just rather not do.

My pixel did randomly restart for no reason and then a day later it was dead. Took it to ubreakifix and they told me its completely dead today. hopefully you have better luck

Damn, sorry to hear that.

Mine has been fine for a week now. No unwanted restarts.

Based on your comment I am going to frequently back up anything important to my my desktop though, just in case.
