At CES Dell showcased the new Alienware Area 51M. This is their newest mobile desktop replacement offering which sports a full blown i9-9900K desktop processor. No mobile part here. It also has an up-gradable GPU. Prices start at around $2500 which includes an i7-8700 and a GTX 1070. The top end sells for $4250 and that configuration includes an i9-9900k and a RTX 2080 (mobile part). What do you guys think? Is this something you'd be interested in buying?

I'll probably order one later in the year around April-June.

There's supposed to be a 240hz panel coming as well

Will wait for some better display options down the road with at least 1440p. Glad to see AW is back with a legit desktop replacement.

The 119W (CPU+GPU load) and 136W (CPU only load) was given to me at the reddit AMA by Frank himself. I have no reason no doubt it's true.

However, at stock speeds this shouldn't be an issue. I will be interested how high it can even overclock with those limits. We'll see in a week.

There IS supposed to be a 1440p panel coming out apparently , possibly? They weren't to clear on that. But the 1080p 240hz did sound pretty much confirmed at least.

You're looking at around April for more display configurations right now.

I'm curious if this has EC-regulated total system power controls. If it does, the GPU will be throttled pretty heavily as well. So much hope for AW to step up but the 136W TDP really shows they won't despite putting K series desktop CPU's in their DTR.

Apparently the GPU has a 150W TDP with 180W OC TDP. So the GPU sounds like it'll be one of the fastest in the mobile department. Whether it will hold clocks we'll have to see.

That's good to hear, unlike Razer w/its "throttled" RTX video cards on their gaming laptops, due to poor cooling setup (either that, or Max-Q, sigh).

RTX 2080 in Area-51M has a 190W TDP with 200W increase in April per AW Frank Azor.

I have an Area-51M on order. Will make some videos etc.

Should come in 1-2 weeks hopefully.
