Obscure games that you loved

I didnt know there was a new one....now I have plans after work!

I wouldn't have known either but one of my podcasts did a review. Has a mostly positive rating on Steam right now. Larry from the 80s somehow ends up in our present day. He learns about dating apps and social media.

I hate boring racing games where you only drive around in circles. I feel like this was a cool game that never really got much attention.

So nobody liked Leisure Suit Larry? ;)

Played all of them and loved them (well, with the exception of the ones that came out a few years back that weren't really adventure games). I wouldn't have listed them here though because they're not really obscure IMO. Definitely some old favorites though. I've got 1-7 in my GOG account in case I ever want to play through them again.

Just a FYI....But Fanatical does have the LSL games bundle for like $2. Think 7 games.
BTW...Any remember Earthseige? Found it in my old games box. :)

Omikron: The Nomad Soul

I liked that one a lot too, still have the original disk. I also like this one.

Yes that Red Faction was an awesome game, still have it on disc. I was sorely disappointed that they made the later ones 3rd person and concentrated more on melee than guns in combat.

Nox vid brought back memories, played the shit out of that in college.

Subspace / Continuum from 1997. This game ate MMO levels of my time back then, might have to log back in now that it’s on Steam (since 2015 lol). It’s hard to explain what it’s like, but think MMO PvP Asteroids, with a ton of game modes from deathmatch/team death match, CTF, soccer (ala Rocket League), base infiltration, etc. SSCU Trench Wars for life!

Forsaken from 1998. Basically Descent, originally the hot chick on the cover sold me, but the game was pretty fun too. Played it with my SpaceOrb 360 6 DOF controller wooo, talk about obscure hardware!

Blast Corps on N64. You have to destroy cities in the way of a runaway autonomous nuclear truck thing so it doesn’t hit anything and explode. It was relentlessly difficult if I recall correctly, and I haven’t met many people who’ve played it in my circle of friends. Very fun though with a lot of different vehicles to drive/pilot.

Risk of Rain, a relatively newish indie game that seems fairly obscure. Introduced me to the rogue-like style game genre, and tremendously addictive once you unlock some of the other playable characters.

This reminded me of a text based mud I used to play. Cant recall the name of it but it was real harsh on players. Perma death, you had to figure out all the skills on your own. Roman like setting. Great times...wish I could remember the name.

Master of Monsters (Sega Genesis). Played for hours

The sound fx for that game have been burned into my brain. It was probably the most enjoyable MMO experience in the dial-up/pre-broadband era.

But I never considered it obscure; I remember the gaming mags at the time were big champions of this game. No, it didn't have Triple-A production values or graphics. But it appealed specifically to a Gen-X audience that considered Asteroids, SpaceWar or Starcastle among their fav gaming experiences.

I think I tried picking it up again 10 years ago. I may have to revisit it again too now it's on Steam.
