anyone out there have a suggestion to fix this?

A friend and I bought PG278Q's at the same time (about 4 years ago), we got 2080 Ti FE's at the same time (same SN batch) in November and both are having the exact same issue in the video. The RTX cards initiated the problem but also made it permanent because it hasn't gone away. I tried different drivers, power cycles, cables, GPUs, entirely different PC's and the problem persists. Monitors are unfortunately out of warranty at this point.

I would be very curious to know if anyone out there with the same set up ran into the same problem.

I can also say that we both noticed it the first time we ran Battlefield 5.

IIRC Battle Field 5 is also the only game that triggers RT, so maybe there's some connection there ...

the interesting part about that is my friend didn't turn on DXR and still got the issue. I turned DXR right away after installing so hard to say if that is the culprit. But something in those RTX cards triggered the problem. Is it possible for those to send a bad signal via displayport to cause such issue?

I have that same monitor on my 1080 Ti system. Not sure what to suggest as I've never had that issue. Have you tried to do a full reset via the monitor OSD back to factory spec?

I had a 1080 Ti hooked up to it for 2 years, not a single issue. I actually miss that card. It was only when I first put the RTX card in and started playing BF5. That's when I noticed the bottom left corner of the screen was blurry and flashing. It got progressively worse from there. The video I made was the monitor just plugged into a power source with no video connection at all. tried to reset to factory spec and it still comes back. Same thing with friends display.

Have you reached out to ASUS about this?
ASUS and Nvidia both. NV actually sent me to ASUS. ASUS wants me to pay 699 for a replacement and pay to ship the old one to them for testing. Not something I can do right now post holiday plus we both work on these monitors and neither have an alternative to use right now. I might just have to deal with it until I can afford a new one. It's just really sad that I didn't cause this issue and had no problems for years until I overspent on what should have been a really nice GPU.... that backfired. aside from this issue, i'm also now on my 3rd 2080Ti. latest is an EVGA custom, i'm done with FE.

I'd push back on ASUS and NVIDIA and use social media if you have to. Especially since you have two people with the same parts and having the same issue, much less likely it's a failed monitor.

I thought about casting a net out on Reddit. I don't use FB or anything like that. I mostly live under a rock.

Were the monitors new or used? I still have my PG278Q so I can hook it up and see what happens, but I do not have BFV.

that would be awesome if you could do that. the monitors were brand new when bought (about 4 years ago). do you have 2080Ti FE? we both had SN batch 323 which I think were plagued with issues. I might be able to give you a BF5 code, I already bought the game before the promo. not sure how that works bc it might be static to my email or something.

I bought my PG278Q in October 2014, so it is a little over 4 years old. My 2080 Ti is an FE. I don't remember what the S/N was, but I believe it is also in the 323 batch. If you want to give me the BFV code, send me a PM. I believe the NVIDIA promo codes are tied to the type of hardware, not to an e-mail or anything I won't be able to see if it works until later tonight, though.

I hope you get to the bottom of this soon. I have a PG278Q that has served me well for years and am about to get a 2080 Ti in the next few months. I really hope there isn't something with these 1st gen G-Sync displays with the new cards that messes them up.

thanks, me too. I would maybe steer away just to be safe. or just don't play BF5 on it lol.

Asus should have just sent a middle finger.gif.

I had one similar dealing with them that was only resolved by someone in Kyle's position, so they will definitely respond to that sort of approach (Nathan @ LegitReviews).

lol they probably would if they could. At this point, i'm just hoping for someone with the same issue to see this thread and maybe have a suggestion to fix it. It almost feels like an issue between the RTX cards and 1st Gsync modules but I don't really know that much about the technology.

You know it's funny - I was annoyed that I got a 1080FE because, well, blower. But now I am doing NOTHING to upset that little gem. It must work another generation.

keep it. keep it. keep it. Did i mention that you should keep it? 20 series is an expensive dumpster fire. i'm on my 3rd one.

The 2080 series is an absolute joke of a generation. It's a hard pass. The next one will probably end up being on the low end of what people hoped the 2080 series would be.

It's been a blatant cash grab.

The lack of refinement of the cooler with its million and 1 screws and glued on cover plate indicate a cheaper development process, so it was set to be more profitable anyway, and then they charged double! :wtf:

thank you! much appreciated.
This is what I just got back from ASUS.

The case below was passed over to me (Wendy) for review. Could you reach out to the user’s on the forum and have them email [email protected] with the serial number of the monitor? We would be more than happy to work with them towards a resolution.

This. Get the word out and you'll see Asus start doing something.

Also have the same monitor and an 2080ti from EVGA (my 2nd one) but it has a 2080 cooler/backplate.. Not sure what crack EVGA is smoking at their factory.
Was gonna setup my monitor arms and use my pg278q but now I'm a little hesitant.. Maybe I should just do it and if something happens I know it's a bigger problem that's likely going to get fixed the more we are.

man 2080 Ti seem to have issues. They really don't have a lot of options either. Fricking all on Newegg are above 1299 - 1500 lol. Amazon barely even have any when I checked yesterday. Wondering if the low quantity is due to issues. Just picked up an open box zotac amp 2080 for 599 on amazon. Hopefully someone returned it because it didn't fit in their case cuz they are extra long and tripple slot lol. Because usually, amazon won't resell if you return as defective. But still scared of them space invaders. And newegg has it for 840 right now.

Hopefully you get his sorted out OP. Thats way too much money for a card to have issues like this.

I have a PG278Q bought in October 2016 and an EVGA 2080TI Black (the $999 card) purchased late December. I think I have a very early version of this problem. Strangest thing is I haven't run any games since buying the card, only a few benchmarks, and it occurred from a crash while watching a youtube video. It's still very preliminary and looks more like some stuck pixels at the bottom of my screen, but I'm not sure if continuing to run them together is playing russian roulette. Figured I'd at least give some input that this doesn't appear to only be cards or monitors from a certain batch.

I was able to redeem the code from OP, so I've been doing some testing. I've played about 2 hours of the single player with max in-game details on the PG278Q. I've been getting display blanking issues (the screen will occasionally go black for a second) that happen rather frequently (every 5-10 minutes). I have not yet noticed the issue in the video that was posted. Played about an hour on my PG27UQ and I have experienced no issues so far. I've been running my 2080 Ti at stock clocks with the power limit at 123% and I didn't change it for my time with the PG278Q. I only plug one monitor in for testing to eliminate possible issues specific to multimonitor setups.

Did you use the same cable on both?

I’ve noticed the PG278Q is pretty sensitive to static electricity and tends to blank the screen for a second when I touch my Macbook Pro connected to the same power strip as my desktop PC and can feel a slight static discharge, probably from walking on the fluffy rug I have on the floor.

Does anyone have theories what could cause the issue in OP? The display should not know if it is running raytraced content or not but the 20xx series could be outputting higher voltage to the display or something.

I live in a humid climate in a house with tile flooring throughout, and have never had an issue with static electricity before. I used the cable that came with each respective monitor for testing.

If you can be bothered, using the same cable would be worth trying as blanking can be an issue with the cable. I’ve got a 2080 Ti coming in next week so I can test then as well.

I had a 2080 for a couple of weeks and a 2080Ti for 30 days and I was using a PG278Q gsync monitor (4 years old). I did not experience this issue. I did not play BF 5 at all and there was nothing for me to test RTX features at the time.

Did you try using the HDMI on the monitor? From what I recall the HDMI bypasses the G-Sync module, or at least doesn't use it as much. If it works with HDMI that would suggest it killed the G-Sync module on the monitor.

It only has a single Displayport input. HDMI is on newer versions.

I have both an older Dell S27 and the new Acer X27, both have HDMI. I thought all G-Sync displays were displayport primary, and a single HDMI.

The PG278Q was one of the first G-Sync screens and at the time the G-Sync module didn’t support anything but DP. It’s annoying because I would like to hook up my laptop to it when working from home but I can’t be bothered to move the DP cable between machines.

I wonder if the RTX cards are doing something that is killing the first gen G-Sync modules.

Out of curiosity - Did you ever update your 1080ti with the Displayport firmware update to support 1.4?

I made it very clear to Nvidia at the very beginning that the monitor was 4 years old and out of warranty. They told me that wasn't an issue since their hardware caused the failure and then passed the torch to ASUS. My friend decided to give them his CC info to get an advanced replacement and they held the money and then sent him an email 3 days later that they won't replace it because it's out of warranty. The whole thing has been a giant cluster fuck and both companies managed to make us both feel like we did something wrong. I will never buy another ASUS product or recommend anything they sell to my customers. Nvidia unfortunately has me by the balls because I enjoy having the fastest GPU I can get for work and gaming. Definitely looking forward to Intel's GPU offering for the data center because that will be quoted in every server I build and not a single damn NV Quadro.

I own a first gen Gsync monitor (the very first 4k60 gsync from Acer). I would be interested to see if it has problems as well.

Really sorry to hear about this, LostMF1, as this is something most would not have seen coming. I feel the phrase hindsight is 20/20 just doesn't work here. It's supposed to just work.

Funnily enough, my friend has the EXACT same monitor and is planning on a new build later this summer. It's a great monitor and it has aged really well.

You can output video with HDMI to a G-SYNC monitor, but you can't use G-SYNC VRR with HDMI.
