Fallout 76 Players Glitched Their Way Into a Developer Room

Eurogamer says that some enterprising Fallout 76 players managed to glitch their way into a "developer room" with high tier and unreleased items. While the exploit is just now going public, Eurogamer's sources say that the exploit has been circulating around Discord servers for several weeks.

Check out a video of the glitch here, while it's still up.

As the article mentioned, glitching into "dev rooms" in Bethesda RPGs without modding or using the console is nothing new. Among other things, I fondly remember exploiting the Frostcraig Spire glitch in Oblivion, which involved moving into the DLC-added Magicians tower and then deleting the DLC from your console/Xbox 360. As far as I know, the Oblivion glitch remains unpatched to this day. Exploits like this were relatively harmless in Bethesda's singleplayer RPGs, and exploring/cataloging them was almost a hobby, but the devs are apparently taking a different approach to such exploits in Fallout 76. To be honest, I'm a little surprised they include a "developer room" in public builds of Fallout 76 in the first place, as cells were easy to delete in previous games.

Yet if you're hoping to explore the room for yourself, you may want to think twice before attempting the procedure. Several sources told me Bethesda is now issuing automatic account suspensions for those who enter the room. Players are reportedly being informed of the bans via email, and take anywhere from six to 24 hours to be issued. (Eurogamer has contacted Bethesda for confirmation as to whether it is suspending accounts for entering the developer room.) Despite it now being seemingly risky to retrieve items from the room, some of my sources claimed players are using mule accounts to take the items before quickly transferring them to other accounts before the banhammer comes crashing down (one source told me these items are being traded in a Russian-language trading Discord). Apparently accounts belonging to players who enter the room are being banned, but those to which the items are transferred remain unscathed.

Will someone who hates this game anyway be my loot mule for me?

but why! Why would this be included in production versions?

The same reason it was included in all their previous RPGs?

At least the fix should be relatively easy. Editing cells out of Skyrim SE (as opposed to editing an outdoor area) takes a matter of minutes, assuming the Creation Kit is in a cooperative mood.

My first char is parked, confusion. My second, my crafter really, is all Enclave and she is now parked as my third char goes all Brotherhood.

Just a great game. I have to get my Handmade plans, he just scored, to my crafter Jenny but I'm in no hurry. Now he is tweaking the best gun in the game which is fun for me. The game is a huge pile of cake. ;) The view from his place:

That room looks just like the qasmoke room in FO4 without the console commands to get there and to get out.

When you think they couldn't get more incompetent. WTF? Including developer area in the build that is pushed out to clients?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?

But what's even more ridiculous: Banning people who manage to stumble on it. You found a bug in our game: BANNED!

So laziness?

Maybe?

More like indifference. Bethesda seems to developed Fallout 76 the same way they developed the SP RPGs, and it seemingly never occurred to them that leaving a developer zone in a shipping multiplayer game could have unintended consequences.

Its a well know exploit, the PA wall breach. Its been largely ignored as people are glitching into unopened Vaults etc. The developer room definitely is a step too far, although I do have some sympathy for those banned.

... so the auto-ban function for exploiting bugs has bugs too it seems...

I hope people who looked but didn't touch didn't get banned, however if you hack a MP game and get caught? Expect to get banned.

It just goes to show you, one community's trash is another man's treasure.

Don't see this as a "they fucked up again".
This has happened to other MMO's like fx. WoW and Eve Online.

I actually remember when it happened in Eve Online, i was a player support at the time (Polaris).

Its not Stalker, but that's about my only gripe. You live in a toxic community if that's the way you think.

Only a few of you have played the game, but very many have opinions. You are sheep. ;)

You'd be stunned at how many dev rooms exist in online games. Most devs in the online space just corrupt them or lock them with boat anchors in live versions.

I would have given bonus points to Bethesda if there was a chicken gun in the room though.

Hahaha, fair enough. I have a good friend who loves the game. I'm just survival gamed out at this point either way. It is a huge turn off in regards to how Bethesda has handled many public manners in regards to this game.

It's still never a bad thing to see at least some people not suffering from buyers remorse though.

....which is stunningly and remarkably stupid.

video is already down- anyone know of another source?

edit:
beware of the ad for outerworlds tagged onto the end by the way....

You keep saying that, but it doesn't make you right. This ''sheep" has played and I'm on the side of it's a trash game.

It's the only argument the cheerleaders of the game have: Oh you haven't played it so you can't possibly know it is bad!

Its certainly not the only argument, but its a good one.

The main problems now are server disconnects and the residual effects of the duper bug. That is really screwing up balance and makes an economy very hard to create. I know all about dupers selling OP crap on the internet, what I mean is the in game economy. ESO had one for quite a while but they got greedy with the Crown Store and pretty well wrecked it. This one is different and may actually work ... in time. ;)

What happened? Ain't played for years.

It's a bug, well known or not they have no right to ban people over it. The developer room being in the public version of a multiplayer game is a step too far. Don't get me wrong I think leaving it in the shipped version of a SP game is still a remarkable example of laziness and carelessness, but this is beyond stupid and incompetent. And that they have the audacity to start banning people who discover their incompetence makes me second guess if I even want starfield or ES6.

That room looks just like the qasmoke room in FO4 without the console commands to get there and to get out.

It's in every one of their open world rpgs, I remember back in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, and then FO3, NV, fo4 and use it to setup multiple characters to cut down playtime, and experiments with builds, also it's a great area to experiment with adding content to the game, they leave it in as it's an area for develpers at BGS and modders to develop content in an isolated location, it also saves modders adding content seemlessly into the game then leaving it in the room for people who just want to grab it, rather than finding it or using the console to add it to inventory as item IDs are just a messy way to obtain it.

WoW has never had an inaccessible "developer only" zone itemized. Or actually with working enemies and quests for that matter, it has had just map areas not open to the public but that was it, and I was never banned for accessing them just like most anybody else.

Not much, people suddenly showed up outside the station in the Polaris system.
The higher up player support teleported them out and a patch was quickly made.

That is how i remember it, it was many years ago so it might have happened slightly different.
