I tried to migrate to a new (cloned) SSD and on boot up it goes into the Asus bios screen and nothing works (mouse/keyboard). If I power off and restart it says "power surge detected, Asus safe mode entered" or something. It does the same booting from the old SSD as well, so don't think it's the SSD.

From that point it'll boot into windows w/ the old SSD, but with new SSD it goes back to frozen bios screen. Once with new SSD it got to Windows but blue screened a second later.

Does this sound like the power supply is going? It's a Seasonic, like 5-6 years old.

Do you get the bluescreen with the old SSD too ?
Powersupply witch model ? Power rating ?
You get an error code/stop code on the blue screen ? example only -> here
Share the bluescreen information.

You can try this.

SeaSonic G Series SSR-650RM 650W is the PSU, purchased 2013.

I only got the bluescreen once, and then the new SSD wouldn't boot. The old SSD seems to run fine unless I power off (sleep is ok) - then when powering on you get the Surge warning. Haven't gotten any bluescreens with old SSD.

That link was great, thanks! I'll try those steps.

I got around to updating the BIOS like your link suggested, and bingo, that fixed it! I don't think I'd ever updated the bios. I haven't tried the new SSD yet, just happy it seems like it was a BIOS problem, not hardware.

Thanks Koe!
