Throwing Some Cold Water on Mobile GTX 1160 Rumors

Several media outlets recently reported that Lenovo "confirmed" the mobile Nvidia GTX 1160 via a listing on the support page for the Y530. Lenovo seems to have stripped out any mention of the 1160 since then, adding even more fuel to the fire. However, what all those sites failed to mention or realize is that the "GTX1160" was on that product page in June last year.

We reported that Lenovo was (incorrectly) calling Nvidia's next gen graphics cards the "11 series" around that same time, and the "1180" they mentioned turned out to be part of the RTX 2000 series. While that doesn't definitively debunk the mobile GTX 1160 rumor, and says nothing about the alleged desktop variants, I think the "GTX 1160" listed on Lenovo's site is probably an old placeholder instead of a new leak.

Pretty amazing how many leaks or rumors regarding NV product releases these days. Kind of reminds me of watching the smoke and mirrors of Intel with 10nm fab vs. stock prices.

From this to the many variants of 2060 I'm wondering how long until the partners start cutting their orders to prevent being left with another gen of overstock.

That assumes more than, say, two unique variants of the 2060 actually release to worldwide retailers.

Well, all those variants could exist, but that doesn't mean there will be several different unique versions of the same card sent to worldwide retailers. Given that the registration is for the Eurasian area, it is entirely possible that some are region specific and some might even be OEM only models. I would be very surprised to see six unique versions of the same card sold to worldwide retailers. I would not be surprised if that many existed in the first place as lower-tier cards do sometimes get region and OEM exclusive variants (see the recent RX 580 2048 for example).

There have been rumors that nVidia was going to launch both a GTX 2060 and a RTX 2060 which is just stupid for naming conventions. A GTX 1160 and a RTX 2060 is a bit more sane to distinguish them from each other.
