Half-Life 3 may be a distant pipe dream, but fans can always turn to the classics for crowbar beatings and gravity gun hijinks. Modder Gunship_Mark_II has incentivized that thought with his team’s Half-Life 2: MMod, which has been in the works for nine years and provides substantial improvements to the game’s graphics, AI, sound, and more. The mod weighs in at 235 MB, and most of the changes can be toggled on or off according to taste.

The goal of Half-Life 2: MMod is to enhance and expand gunplay, combat mechanics, and the immersion factor by giving the player more options and combat opportunities as well as refine how the player handles his arsenal. Half-Life 2: MMod also offers minor AI enhancements, extended abilities for combine soldiers, multiple bug fixes, enhanced visuals, VFX re-design, sound redesign, and much, much more, while keeping nearly every new feature in the mod totally optional.

I finished up a play-through of Half-Life 2 a few nights ago so looks like it's time to start another one! This mod looks good so I'll try it later tonight.

Oh Schweet mother, i would buy this all over again. I guess they never made HL3 because we are so close to that in reality it is scary:droid:

Is this worth installing? I started the HL:2 a couple months back and didn't get far. If this is good I'll install it and do a play through.

Played HL:2 right around release with a NVIDIA Geforce FX5700 Ultra 128MB. It played so bad I had to drop the DirectX (DX8 maybe) level to get decent performance.

EDIT: that card was so bad it was probably DirectX 7

install instructions say "Put HL2MMod folder into SourceMods folder ( \Steam\steamapps\sourcemods ) and restart Steam" - have fun!

I have HL-2, Ep1 and Ep2 installed and I put the MODD folder where it's supposed to be placed, restarted Steam then ran HL2 and then Ep 2 and saw zero difference.

what did I not do?

If your Steam installation is not on C: you will probably need to copy the HL2MMod folder to the Half-Life 2 Update install folder and set Launch Options to " -game HL2MMod". This is from a comment on the mod page.

You have to have the Half-Life 2 Update free mod on Steam installed for this to work. It is mentioned in one of the txt files included in the zip file but of course it's not mentioned in the mods readme.
9 years in the making but cannot make useful documentation.

Entire video showing off this mod just screams bullet sponge to me (which HL2 suffered from before mod IMO). The player was getting lit up by gunfire from poor play and not really getting hurt. Same for the enemies. Now the machine gun's in HL2 were always spammer poor hit ratio but the sponge effect, especially at the end when he dies seems over the top to make them "hardened".

I liked all of the HL2 games and episodes sans the cliffhanger... I'll be skipping as it appears the improved gun play is not improved. I always got angry when I'm aiming at the head of a soldier with the machine gun and he can just charge and charge without any body adjustment to my fire. Meanwhile 4 others are on my flanks are blasting away.

HL2 was the first game I played under DX9 and the difference was amazing. I played half the game on a Ti4800SE (damn I wish I still had that card!) and played the other half of the game on a 6600GT. Good times.

I totally recommend Black Mesa to anyone interested in the HL series.

Trying to remember what GPU I had when I played this. Was so long ago might have been my old Radeon 9700.

I enjoyed this game but hated the way it "ended". Not sure I want to revisit. Looks pretty good though for a 2004 era game.

This is a gaming computer.
The hard drives are in raid 0.
It runs Half Life 2 and Doom 3 real sweet.

I emailed the above to my dad on Fri, 21 Jan 2005
I doubt he understood half of it.

note the ratpadz and that mouse was lovely
The little XP boot scroll would go across the screen about 4 time and the desktop would popup.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

put the MMod in your steam mods location in steam folder, just like the read me states.
download the Half-Life2 update from steam.

I then made a shortcut for Mmod.

Launch the game from the shortcut.

Gave me an excuse to replay HL2. The mod works flawlessly. Looks slightly improved, more weapon choices.

I also gave Tranamission Element 120 a try, its really fun too.

The reason there is no Episode 3 or HL3, is because they're still waiting on me to finish Episode 2. It's a stalemate you see. I'm waiting for them to give me a reason to finish it.
