Microtransactions appear to be getting way out of hand: Activision is now charging Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 players $1 for the privilege of a new reticle, such as the “Open Dot,” which is essentially a red-dot donut laser. While a dollar won’t break the bank, this is something that would traditionally be awarded to players through gameplay progression.

You see that lone single dot on the left-hand side of the image? Yep, that’s the item for sale. It’s funny that Activision is even selling this dot, and it’s even more amazing that (we presume) some people are buying it! It’s currently priced at 50 COD Points ($.50 cents) given there’s a limited 50 percent sale happening right now until the first day of 2019. Otherwise, it’s a flat 100 COD Points ($1) to acquire this dot.

Next thing they will add is that you can Sprint faster for only $9.99

Personally I never buy into this and avoid most games that offer MTs, sadly there's too many intellectually impaired people with perhaps gambling / shopping addictions that will make this a lucrative business model for all games .... :(

Which was idiotic in the first place. We don't need this type of progression in skilled games. They did it to Need for Speed, Call of Duty, BF...

Expected as we move to à la carte gaming, where every piece of the game will be partitioned off and sold to you through mx.

Tired of seeing the same NPC enemy? There's a purchase for that! Tired of the one gun? There's a purchase for that!

That is next level greed.

Using weapon sights are an important stepping stone to getting really good with some weapons with awful iron sights.

I suppose this wouldn't be a probem if there was already a slightly altered free version that people prefer to use. But if this sight is superior to other sights, that is despicable.

OK, this red dot sight is superior to the current free one in the game; it is much easier to aim longer distances as the dot is smaller.

The current free red dot is too big to see enemies at long range.

P2W.

For those who feel they must own at least one premium dot:

This dot is free... better grab it before it runs out of stock:

Wow. . .that is pretty bad for a franchise game. I would think an upgraded scope or sight with that dot might be more professional and fitting for a game like this.

Is there an ingame way to earn COD money? If there is I'd say it's okay, but if not it's a really desperate grab for cash.

Usually the economies of these MT games are balanced entirely around the idea that you have to buy the in game currency or the game becomes a completely unrewarding grind to play.

People are starting to turn on these developers because of exactly this bullshit. That Star Wars abomination from EA was just the beginning. Entertainment companies need to pay a little more attention to their customers and a little less to their shareholders.

And this is why I haven't purchased a CoD game since the original Black Ops came out. I even had an EVGA Black Ops branded GTX 580 back in the day.

1000 tiny dot stickers cost less than $1.
Show your mates this and sell them a dot for 10C, profit!

I wont buy a game that treats their fan base like this.

Officially worse than horse armor though?

Currently the only MTX I will buy in any game is Path of Exile league and supporter packs to me they deserve a bit of cash considering the amount of content they keep putting in the game and character slots, extra storage space, are all really the only game altering things you can buy considering the game is free, I would def say that if you play enough to have that much to store or need more characters than you should give them some money everything else is cosmetic which is fine.

Honestly they have to earn the right to get extra money from me and selling a red dot that can clearly give an advantage in a game is pure bs, I would never buy a game from them if they honestly think this is acceptable and ok as a studio. I always thought the expansion packs were rip offs for the money in these games.

IIRC I remember seeing a monitor with a center dot built in as a feature. But dang Activision ... selling in game virtual dots ... seriously?

since other games give you up to hundreds of combinations for crosshairs and colors for free in the hud options so that you can best enjoy the game you own the way you want to, this is pretty much a shit deal from the industry that brought you the day one patch.

Actually, a shareholder owned company shoukd ONLY listen to its shareholders, and the board representing them.

That doesn't mean the shareholders and board are always right.

I know someone who used to put a tiny dot in the middle of the actual panel. Cost of finding a pencil.

CoD: BO5

<Press square to reload>

"This action will cost $0.30/rd. Please use the analog stick to indicate the desired number of rounds."
No, it will be 35¢ per round. These are virtual rounds so they are better. Also, if you live in the state of CA, make sure to have your ID ready and there is a 10 day waiting period.

I hear Activision is trying to get Microsoft and Sony to install coin slots on their next gen consoles

Bring back the arcade already.

If where going to have our kids plugging quarters to play games again... at least we can get them socializing a bit face to face, and having easier access to the local weed guy hanging around back.

Except for those times where Wall Street doesn’t understand the product and the business suffers because they’re ignoring their customers.

Having said that, the companies are making millions of dollars on this type of crap, so the problem is, according to the money they’re making, the ARE listening to their customers, because people are still paying for it. Solution? Play something else, vote with your wallet. EA got hammered for Battlefront II and ended up doing a completely different strategy for BFV as a result. Expansion packs are free, all DLC and micro transactions are cosmetic only. Their customer said they didn’t want it and EA was forced to adapt on the next release.

I couldn't imagine using a reflex scope without a reticule. If I played CoD (I don't) I would probably buy it.

What's next? Charging $0.05 for each thread in the cammies? Getting rediculous...

I didn't read any posts.

A game dot, reticule.... In any fps game are free and usually there are 5-20 of them to choose from in a game.
They have never been awarded through progression or bought that I have ever seen.

But the last fps I played was over 15yrs ago.
You know, when they were still fps games where you didn't know where your opponents were.

As microtransactions, play to win and loot boxes become insidious, I will be less and less of a gamer. It is what it is.

I'd rather see a small (small) fee for modding things for yourself: custom reticle dots, paint jobs, camo, tattoos, etc. Anything that is just simple texture modding.

I forgot! HAPPY NEW YEAR [H]!!! From the tiny islands of the Republic of Palau!

Remember when you had to put 2 quarters into the videogame to play....we've finally come full circle. :p
