What was your justification for RTX 2080 ti?

No judgement here, I'm just curious to hear justifications for it. I'm one of the unfortunate GTX1080 owners who is in exactly the middle of the pack. If I had a GTX980 I could talk myself into it or definitively say no if I had a GTX1080 ti 11gb. Luckly 4k 120hz ultrawide IPS isn't out. If the panels had materialized I could easily talk myself into a RTX2080 ti, but so far my GTX1080 still meets midrange requirements for gaming on an 1440p X34P. How did you talk yourself into it? Did you have an outdated card? epeen? Nvidia Surround?

some people just want the best money can buy. the best performance regardless of price, that people doesn't need justification to buy the closest GPU to offer truly 4K maxed settings as close as possible to 60FPS... that's the only justification needed for most people in this forum.

I wasn’t satisfied with my 1080 Ti and the measly 100 FPS I was getting in newer demanding titles. Now I game comfortably at 130-165 FPS in the same titles on my 1440p monitor.

The performance is incredible, that can’t be argued. Sucks the initial batches had QC issues and it sucks that lack of competition has driven up the price of admission. Still, it’s a leap above the 1080 Ti and therefore the only choice for demanding enthusiasts.

tired of the 1080ti, and wante dot play kingdom come.

I got like 80 FPS on a 2080 in pubG maxes at 2k, getting a TI wouldn't be so crazy if I wanted to play closer to the 144hz

My 980ti was not performing as well as I would have liked at 144Hz 144p and at 60hz 4k. And I was tired of waiting for the 1080ti's to drop in price after the mining craze.

I swore I was done buying $1000+ video cards, but here I am on my third. It is my main and just about only hobby so it is fun to have new things to enjoy. I just moved to a high refresh rate monitor and the extra performance over my Titan X Pascal has been noticeable.

When did Nvidia bother with pricing their high end cards at a reasonable price when AMD was competitive (R9 290X vs titan) it was still near $1000.
You are suffering badly from consumerism you make up your own reason for buying then blame someone else for the price and put yourself in victim role when paying for it because you are a demanding enthusiast and that justifies everything......

That was poorly worded, I should have added it's the only choice for 1080 Ti owners looking to upgrade. Certainly you don't have to be a 2080 Ti owner to be a "demanding enthusiast", but it IS the top gaming card for those who can utilize the power. The 35% bump in raster performance is a tangible benefit, not a gimmick. As long as the cards WORK, nobody who bought one is a victim.

RTX 2080ti isn't the RTX Titan. Nvidia released the 780ti to trump the 290x and was $699, the 980ti was $649, and the 1080ti was $699. 2080ti is $1199 and the RTX Titan is $2499. The RTX series is ~$500 more for ti models and ~$1000 More for titan models.

I don't care that the price hike doesn't matter to you, but don't bury your head in the sand and say it's not real.

I like new tech and I just wanted it. No real reason. My 1080ti was fine.

4K/60 with details cranked. Simple as that. I was coming from a normal 1080 and I tend to follow a 2-year upgrade cycle. 1080Ti's can almost do it but not quite and I'm not a fan of SLI.
The 2080Ti fit the bill and it hasn't disappointed thus far.

I wanted 4K 60fps minimums whenever possible, so the 2080 Ti was a decent upgrade over the 1080 Ti.

I enjoy pain, essentially, the raw feeling of having a 2080Ti rammed in my ass, over and over again. Lol

From a realistic perspective, I already have two "ultra wide" 4K monitors, that's the 55" one in my den I sit less than 5 feet away from going blind enjoying all that 4K goodness and the 75" one in my front room. I want rock solid 4K performance and I knew the horse shit track record Nvidia was on with the 2080Ti... I bought a EVGA Black 2080Ti anyway. I'm on my third, the other two were in their death throes within days. This one... a couple hiccups here and there and MOSTLY solid performance. It's gonna shit the bed, at some point, just like double stacking an oversized box of Raisin Bran and eating a gallon of Ice Cream. Just a matter of time.

I think, ultimately, my goal was benevolent. I wanted to identify issues and report them here. I still endeavor to do that, daily, amid the myriad of curses that escape my lips as I encounter more and more issues with the cards :nailbiting:

I was about to buy 2080Ti myself but after long time of waiting for my pre-ordered card I saw review of newly released RTX 2070 and did some calculation and went with 2.4x cheaper option.
Complete lack of RTX games means that such processing power is not really required... and RTX 30x0 will come next year with optimized engine, more cores and faster clocks

I intend to learn how to program DXR (exclusively - meaning to use just RT pipeline to draw graphics skipping rasterization completely) and cheaper card is enough for this :)

When is the 3080ti going to come out? I didn't want to skip this generation when the next generation is two or more years out.

I read an interesting 'rumor' that NVidia will release more cards under the GTX 11 series with the RTX features disabled presumably cheaper. Don't know how realistic that is but it was interesting none the less...

a lot of people here just upgrade for the sake of upgrading every single generation...no justification...sure they'll say how they need it to run 4K or for ray-tracing but the simple fact is that some people just need to upgrade all the time...

So you are saying they are the equivalent of apple fans...

Stupid move... =(
They should stop producing non-RTX cards ASAP

Contrary to what most people here says getting latest GPU model every year does not even require being rich. Glorious PC Master race is still among cheapest hobbies out there.
For people in rich developed countries even 2080Ti shouldn't be "prohibitively expensive" and especially if they have jobs that are any good.

Just was bored with my premade Omen PC I got for less then the parts individually. Kept the CPU parted out everything else and was left with an extra $440 plus $450 in Amazon giftcards... Almost 900 off sounds good to me. Then I got a bad one, sent the 2080ti back for a strix 2080(819) basically went from a 1080ti to a strix 2080 plus beer money.

I’m guessing they’ll be binned chips. They need some stock recovery as nVidia has taken massive hits, sales are low this year especially OEM. Anyway, it’s just a rumor. As I said I don’t know how feaseable it is.

I was running 1440p 144Hz Surround previously, and it was a struggle just to maintain 60 fps on a ultra settings (GTX 1080 SLI).

Decided I wanted faster refresh so I got a 1080p ultrawide with 166Hz refresh. With the 2080 Ti SLI I can get the full 166Hz in many games and I'm mostly CPU bottlenecked at this point (even with an 8700K at 5GHz).

For me, that was the right call. I know people will think I'm crazy for getting $2,400 worth of GPUs for 1080p, but I really love high refresh, and it looks so smooth now.

I wanted the most CUDA cores that I could get and the potential for some of my engineering apps to make use of those tensor cores just sealed the deal.

Well, I also had some level of budget to work within. And I should have said “tensor and RT cores” above.

Got a 1440p 165Hz monitor and had to replace my 1080 with a 2080Ti to get as much FPS as possible. Also had some Christmas bonus and the urge to upgrade. Disposable income and no better hobby.
