Paul Thurrott and co. have learned Microsoft may be returning to the webcam market next year with 4K cameras, one of which would be compatible with both Windows 10 and Xbox One. This product is supposed to provide unique benefits to both platforms: it would grant Windows Hello-based authentication for the former, which is currently limited to camera systems built into Surface PCs, while Kinect-like features and capabilities (e.g., signing in by way of visual recognition) could be resuscitated for the latter.

Microsoft’s new webcams might be tied in some way to the new USB-C-based webcam that it will ship alongside Surface Hub 2 later this year as well. That device has multiple USB-C ports around its periphery so that you can mount a single camera where you like, or use multiple cameras. I’ve been told that one Microsoft webcam will be enterprise-focused, and I’m wondering if this isn’t, in fact, the same camera that will be used with Surface Hub 2. Certainly, a Surface-branded webcam with Windows Hello capabilities makes a lot of sense.

Nice, the Microsoft Lifecam Studio series needs a refresh, I use them in mose of my web conference rooms because they are basically self contained awesome. But they havent updated the line in 3 years.

I wouldn't mind having Windows Hello working at my house. I checked into it a while back, very few cameras available (actually, don't think any had been released when I was looking).

I hate that video. So stupid.

I doubt my upload speed will ever be good enough for 720p let alone 4k though. If the price is right, these could be pretty popular.

My real worry is if their new cams work on other OS's than Windows 10.

:d just the people who know better, like the people who think that you can not see past 24/29 FPS....

I showed my friend the difference between playing a PC game at 30 FPS and 60 FPS... He was upset afterwards, because now he only wants to game at 60 FPS. Once you feel the difference you can’t go back.
