Want to test the micro SD card I just bought but like 10/10 of the desktop apps I've tried have failed to show my USB-connected phone (and thus its SD card), and the first android app suggested by Google (SD Insight) is too old for my OS. Any suggestions? So far my card is working fine for its purpose (storing MP3s) so I suspect the shittiness of the software available, and not my card. Plus even if the card was bad the phone should be showing up, and it ain't.

problem is phones often show up as phones rather than mass storage devices. Odd that you aren't getting it to show up at all. Try another cable. If windows doesn't see your phone, the card reading software isn't necessarily a problem.

Windows sees the phone fine. It just doesn't show up in any of the testing programs. As you say, the card is listed under the phone, but not as a mass storage device.

that is what threw me off. If the phone shows up fine, the first part of my comment applies. Your phone is not showing up as a mass storage device, it is showing up as a phone. There is a way to enable mass storage which requires enabling USB debugging on your phone, the process of which varies depending on android version. Might be better off getting an sd card reader/microsd to SD adapter. I have about 10 of them that came with all my microSD cards...

LOL. I have several as well, but no SD card reader. WTF actually has an SD card reader anymore? Who even buys SD cards? Everybody just buys micro SD cards and connects them to PC via phone via USB.

Will have to check fon settings and see if I can enable mass storage.

That was just micro sd to USB.

LOL. I looked and found an old universal reader. This thing looks like it will read everything. It's got like 5 slots.

And of coooooouuuuuurrrrrrseee it uses the old microUSB that got phased out because shitty, and I don't have one.
