yes, but the one with the copper slug is leaps better than the all aluminum one FYI

I've used and tested both variants and there's literally no difference in performance. The only thing the copper slug variant does is sink more heat into the copper before the CPU overheats because the aluminum fins can't reject it fast enough. This happens partly because the aluminum used is of poor quality and because the fan on the top is not ducted, so the majority of the static pressure is blown out the side of the fan blades and nothing into the fins.

These were awful back in the Pentium D days and are still awful today. Can't tell you how many of them I've tossed over the years, including the one that came with my 6700k. I used it briefly while waiting for my Hyper 212 Evo, and the CPU would overheat constantly.

man, theres many a people here who would've traded you a bologna sandwich for one of those.

It's amazing what even supposedly bad stock coolers will do when the fan is floord by pulling the pwm pin--I regularly put 95w processors under 65w heatsinks in higher ambient temperature environments (80F) and they're rock solid even after I headsoak them for 30 minutes. I don't think I've got a single processor that hits 70C, and most stay under 60C even under full load for 30+ minutes in 80F+. Sure, they can be loud, but I'm never near any of these so sound doesn't matter to me.

I have bad tinnitus, the noise these things make at any appreciable fan speed is intolerable, especially when I have to sit next to them for hours on end. They all get trashed if I have to deal with them for any length of time, it costs more to ship them anywhere than they're worth.

I see how that would be quite annoying. Mine are hundreds of miles away from me so I don't hear squat. :D

And don't think they're not worth shipping. You'd be surprised what someone needs, especially if you offer them up right here. (y)

I just replaced my stock one on my 2600k with a zalman.

$15 well spent

Nice, but sometimes something like that won't fit in something like an SFF. Just saying that don't be surprised if someone needs a part you don't. ;) Hence the point of this thread--one man's garbage, another man's upgrade.

ASK: Does anyone have DDR2 2GB sticks around, pref 6400/800? I goofed up and damaged one of my 4 ram slots while doing a S771 Xeon mod. Going from 4x1 gb to 3 gb and 1 of those at half-speed is making me sad. Ideal would be a 2 x 2gb kit.

It's one of those things I'm in no particular rush on and I can snag from ebay for $10 or less, but I'd rather throw some paypal funds at a H'er.

I found an ebay auction that was within spitting distance of shipping costs.

Replace the RAM slot, not terribly difficult.

Really? I forgot how different the ram clipping mechanism was on the board vs the boards I've used lately. Instead of pressing sticks in to get the clips to lock, this board really involved more manually pushing on the clips to get them to lock. I was applying a lot of force to the RAM and then it slipped such that the RAM was at a 15-20 degree angle and made the most sickening "small metal comb twings" sound you can imagine.

I've had RAM slide sideways inside the slot before that didn't result in any damage. I could see it happening though, and if the slot had bent pins and was powered on with a module installed, it could burn the slot out.

I had a stick of DDR short out inside an old P4 board and it burned several pins inside the socket. Years later I decided to try and replace the slot, and it worked.

It's the slot closest to the CPU, you can tell because the retention clips are different and the slot isn't blue.

arent there 168-204 pins that require soldering?

184 for DDR.

Soldering doesn't take long, the part that takes the longest is removing all of the solder from the holes.
I need to take a class, I suck at soldering and I think it's just my impatience/not knowing when it's hot enough.

Anyone have a AMD Slot A cpu? Speed doesn't matter, but the faster the better. Playing with a great MSI board I acquired from a great guy on here. Gonna make a great retro gamer!

would anyone have an Xbox 360 S pwr supply that I may borrow to test two 360 slim consoles that I have? They were roadside trash find.

I was able to get in on MC's really good Ryzen 1700x deal for Black Friday and upgraded my desktop on the cheap.

Now I have a spare FX 8320 on an Asus (I think) 970 board with 16gb of generic ddr3 (2x4, and 1x8 - also have another 2x4 if you want it, too), with a mounted 212 EVO. No one in my family needs/wants it, nor anyone at my work. I did not have any luck overclocking this combo, as it would become unstable, but it ran fine at stock speeds and served me well for the past 3 years or so.

Here's the deal: I live in the Houston area. I work 50+ hours a week, go to school part time, and my commute is 2-3 hours/day. I do not have the time to either try to sell it on CL (not that it would be worth much) or ship it. But if you live in the Houston area and can meet me some place and time along my commute, you can have it. Just drop me a PM and we can work out the logistics. I would rather someone here get some use from it than it gather dust in my box'o'parts.

Wow, that's a pretty generous offer. I wish I still lived in Houston.

...Although we might be down there visiting old friends a couple days after Christmas

Dang, I was near there not too long ago. I'm 4-5 hours away but I can't see driving 8-10 hours round trip for that.

Still going through piles of stuff, but thought I saw one in the stash with a large heatsink and cooler. Try and look tonight.

I have a AMD quad core cpu believe its a phenom 2 cpu and mainboard 4 gigs memory combo I would like to give away. it is mounted in a case without a power supply but I'm sure shipping would be cheaper without the case. It's free for the cost of shipping. I have a bunch of computers right now and this one is taking up space. I have had no issues with this system but I upgraded recently and thought someone may want this before I put it up on fb marketplace as a give away.

gone now sorry for anyone who missed out.

Anyone have a stock Intel cooler laying around? 1150

I have one of those copper core ones with bent fins E97378-001 with photos available at - https://www.anandtech.com/show/10500/stock-cooler-roundup-intel-amd-vs-evo-212/3

Located in Seattle WA.

Probably not freebie territory, but anyone trying to unload a SAS/HBA PCIexpress card? I'm looking at outfitting my xigmanas box with up to 4 more drives and come across things like the LSI 9212 or H200/H310 for $20.
I think I've found a HBA card.

Have a $5 code/voucher off (says up to $5 total ticket and convenience fee value) to see the Grinch at a Fandango Now partner theater. Looks like you need to complete a short survey the instructions say. Good until 3/31/19.
I got it from some movie I bought but have no theaters nearby.

PM for the code

some one gave me a dell RD1000 "tape drive" which is just a convoluted cartridge based laptop hdd enclosure system (total rip for what dell charges)
Does anyone have and of the cartridge enclosures they are planning to toss? :p

I have a Cooler Master Elite 341 mATX case for free, for anyone living in the Queens vicinity of NYC.

ChefJoe I have a card here you can have for shipping.

SvenBent I am showing that board uses DDR3 memory. I have a cooler master cooler here if you want it. Just pay shipping. A chassis can be picked up pretty inexpensively from Newegg if you keep an eye out. It won’t be the prettiest but it works.

Are you still looking for a chassis? I have a DIYPC MA08-BK Black Micro ATX case you may have for free. There is one problem. I cannot find the cover for the 5.25" drive bay. So you may need to actually mount a DVD/CD drive in there to cover it up. I think I can mount a drive there if you don't already have one. It also has a Cooler MasterWatt Lite 500 Watt PSU mounted that you may also have as well.

The only problem would be the drive. I live in Fort Worth. But I do have a brother that lives in the Allen/Plano area. He is actually coming by later tonight for dinner and I may see him a few more times during the weekend and Christmas since my folks are in town. I can ask him to take it with him and ask him to meet with you so its closer for you.
