I have had several Vega cards, reference and otherwise. I was originally using an EVGA 750B2 but I upgraded to a newer 850P2. The cards all coil whined hideously with those PSU, but I happened to install my V56 that whines badly in my main rig in my 2200G ITX box with a Corsair 600W SFX unit and its silent as can be.

Would switching to a PSU with the same OEM as the Corsair in my main rig dampen down the noise a bit? Its water cooled so its nearly silent except the constant buzzing/whining that I can hear from the next room when playing a game.

Maybe. The coil whine is essentially random among normal production power supplies and videocard combos. Some people will try to engineer whine free power supplies but I have had a few come through that make such claims that still do.

Maybe I'll just use the 600W then. It should be able to handle it.

Interesting... guess I've been a lucky SOB as I've not had a single coil whine (neither nvidia or amd cards), and I've owned a lot of cards, sometimes a few of each current model - I use Corsair and Seasonic Power Supplies...

Never had loud (outside of case) coil whine, even on cards more prone and always running dual psu..

I'm currently on an eVGA 850W GQ PSU and haven't had any coil whine with a 1070, 1070Ti, 1080Ti, and now a Vega 64.

As a reference Vega 56 owner, how can you hear coil whine over the fan??
