GPU fried, anything I can do?

Unrelated, do you have a reef tank? I miss mine, just broke mine down and sold most of my stuff on reef2reef about a month ago. Someday I will get back into it.

Nah, it's just a 55 gallon freshwater. I used to have a 20, but I got this 55 gallon for like 20 bucks or something, with the stand, at a church sale. Reef was too much trouble when at the time I was having trouble even getting a freshwater going without the fish dying. 2 poor souls went into the toilet bowl due to my incompetence. It's going strong now. Using a spare UPS on it.

Some person sent me an email about how thorough my testing was, with regards to the GPU they sent back to me. I assured him that it was fairly thorough and then sent the card in just earlier. Hopefully this'll work out.

So, I clicked this post because I was coming to answer the post title question. In answer to that question; take the card and plug it into some power and set it near an unlit fireplace with kindling and wood. When you hear it pop and fizz, break out marshmallows, graham crackers, some Hersey's and a good pair of large, flat tongs. Create your Smoore(s) and enjoy! That aftertaste is just another nVidia card dying...it's okay, you can just wash it out later.

Okay, I missed a few of their emails because they kept going to trash, but just want to report that since Gigabyte didn't have any more 980Ti's they chose to simply upgrade my 980Ti to a 1080. I just received the 1080.

GPU-Z reports the right GPU. I'm a tad dubious about it actually being new because it has some... weird aspects to it. But it's working. I at least get picture. Very happy with that, Gigabyte actually came through here. An upgrade is very welcome.

I did a benchmark in Firestrike Ultra and it came out to about 4.8k. Looks like a decent amount of other people had a similar benchmark with the CPU I was using to test this (i5 750), so the GPU seems legitimate. I'll have to get my 4770k motherboard out, dust it off, and try testing with it to make sure it's not just CPU bound (probably is). I'm hoping nothing is wrong with the PSU, I was hearing clicking occasionally and the ceiling light started to flicker a bit. I'm starting to wonder if there really is an issue with cable gauge vs length when running my system. I had issues at a friend's house before with a thinner PSU cable.

I think I want to try building a Micro ATX or Mini ITX system, but considering the oldest unused GPU I have lying around is the 4770k, I'm not sure what cheap motherboard to buy off of Ebay for it. Most of the economical options seem to be Micro ATX boards, not Mini ITX (which really might be too small anyway). The goal is to get a small-as-possible portable system set up so I can take it over to lan parties and whatnot, and do it on the cheap. Has to fit this 1080 though. Which while shorter than my old 980Ti, is still fairly long. It's probably going to be a Micro ATX build, the only goal is to get as small a case as possible for the form factor.

Well, I'll take that discussion over to general hardware.

Long story short though, Gigabyte upgraded my 980Ti to a 1080, so I'm pretty happy. They were actually very prompt, too, it's just that their emails kept going straight to trash. Maybe some of my filters, not sure why.

That's pretty awesome to hear--going from a 980Ti to a 1080 is a pretty killer upgrade. Good to hear a company standing up on warranty claims even on older cards.
