Upgrading synology - Any reason NOT to aim for overkill?

To try and make a long story shorter, I've got an old DS216Play unit (and have loved it) but I need MOAR space. While I *could* just go buy two 10tb drives and copy everything on it over (it's two 5tb in a mirrored array) I'd rather move to a 4 bay unit so I can avoid this situation in the future. The two models I've been looking at are the RS816 and the RS818+ since I've already got a small (14U) rack in my basement for networking gear and a plex server, it makes sense to me to just move to a rack-mounted NAS as well. I've found a pretty good deal on the 818+ that brings it down to only ~$100 more than the 816, but I'm having second thoughts.
I don't think I need all that much for this NAS - a max of three concurrent users at the moment, and usually only one at a time. I'm not planning on adding video surveillance to my house, it's really just a few file-shares for backups and some media folders for the plex server (and I'm using their awesome cloud sync app to sync a few folders up to cloud storage.) As near as I can tell, the primary differences between the two models is that the 818+ has a quad core cpu, 2gb DDR3 (can be upgraded to 16gb), 4 gigabit ports instead of only 2, and a PCIe slot that can take a 10gbe card.

Will I ever notice the upgrades over the 816? I honestly doubt I do anything that would warrant the upgrade from dual core to quad core. Am I ever likely to see any benefit from the ability to upgrade the ram from 2gb to 16gb?

But then again, it's only $100 more, so unless anyone has a good reason to stick with the cheaper unit... I'll probably just keep it [H]ard and go for overkill.

Overkill is always best way to go! :D if u have money.. buy best u can get.. u can get performance upgrades and prolly servers ur needs longer when u spend a bit more money to overkill.. tho.. there isnt such thing called overkill.. there is just pussys who dosnt understant go hard or go home mentality :D

U gotta think ahead anyways.. what do u think u have 4-5 years from now.. buy that better unit.. no need to go low end

Yeah definitely think ahead. Think about how long you want the unit to last and how much storage you plan to have by that time. Plus add on any desired free space for added performance and proper defrag.
