Waymo launched its first self-driving taxi service in Chandler, AZ earlier this month, but according to numerous police reports, residents aren’t celebrating what some consider an incredible technological achievement: instead, they’re threatening and harassing the company’s vans by throwing rocks at them, slashing their tires, and forcing them off the road by stopping in front of them or merging into their lanes, which confuses their navigational systems. One man was even caught on video waving a gun at a driver.

Many of the people harassing the van drivers appear to hold a grudge against the company, a division of Mountain View, California-based Alphabet Inc., which has tested self-driving technology in the Chandler area since 2016. “(The suspect) stated that he was the person holding up the gun as the Waymo vehicle passed by and that his intentions were to scare the driver,” said a report from Detective Cameron Jacobs, after police arrested 69-year-old Roy Leonard Haselton on Aug. 8.

was looking for the other thread, this will do. title doesn't look on topic but it is, at 7:10ish.

They're sick and tired (tyred?) of self driving cars being tested on their roads, so instead of going after the entity that allows this, i.e. their city leaders, they'll commit acts of vandalism

The fuck-wittery demonstrated here is exactly why self-driving cars are inevitable.

Those Wayslow vans are a nuisance... they drive like retarded monkeys on crack. Google unleashes their fleet of self driving cars on the populace in rush hour and wonders why we're sick of them? LOL.

In what manner does self driving cars make them sick, or tired? This is nothing but pure undistilled Luddite rage.

The difference from what I have seen is the self driving cars are programmed to drive in a way that nobody actually drives. Doing 35 in a 50, sitting at an intersection 8-10 seconds before taking off, etc etc..

I think the problem is easily resolved by removing all human from the driver's seat. That way nobody will actually drive. [sarcasm]

just wait until the jobs begin to disappear due to the switch-over to robots

I predicated this a long time ago on this very forum. Self-driving cars are the new "glass-holes". People are pushing this technology without even considering the negative impact it will have on multiple levels. Go ahead and be an early adapter of self-driving cars and watch as your car is "keyed" on a daily basis and your tires are routinely slashed.
