AW3418DW

This is back on sale and I'm highly considering picking one up.

Just bought a ridiculously expensive laptop last week though and I don't know if the wife will let it fly. I already have a 27" 1440p 165hz monitor though.

Primarily I just want some thing bigger in at least 2k. I've thought about even getting a Samsung 49" QLED TV and tack it to the wall for a bit more distance.

Decisions decisions.

Thankfully I don't have to clear any purchase with my wife before I buy what I want. She gets what makes her happy and I do the same. Buying this monitor for me was a great purchase. I have a corner desk and have the monitor pushed to the deep corner for maximum distance. Everything looks extremely sharp and detailed. Maybe selling your old monitor would offset the price of this one? Talk to the wife maybe you can swing her over to your side?

Just thought of this... There is a payment system on this monitor through PP when I got mine. I didn't use it but if it would help your purchase it could be a selling point.

I picked this up over the Black Friday eBay sale as well.

Backlight bleed seems worse at certain viewing angles. How did I do?

I don't know how you guys can tolerate that. A bit over a month ago I got the lg34wk95u. I ended up returning it for burn in issues. But black screen pictures didn't come anywhere near what this was when photographed.

Mine doesn’t look ‘that’ bad to the naked eye but it does have similar characteristics. What’s the alternative? Not get a monitor? We live in an imperfect world unfortunately. For me, it’s not about the money (to a certain extent). I would pay $2000 for the ‘percect’ monitor but it doesn’t exist.

I should note that this is at the default 75 brightness with auto exposure taken from my phone. In person, it's not nearly as bad. Most of the display is a very dark grey in a darkened room (standard IPS glow stuff).

From what I've read online, the lower left corner is problematic for most AW3418DWs, so I'll probably keep it.

thelead how bad is the vignetting on your panel? The whole image feels dimmer, and I feel I have to set to ~60% brightness to compensate (pre-calibration).

I didn’t notice any vignetting with regular usage to be honest. However, due to image retention, and the poor contrast, it’s boxed up and ready for return. Not sure which monitor to go with right now.

Good for you man, I don't understand why so many guys are pussy whipped and have to run everything by their wives. Setup a joint account for expenses (e.g. mortgage, electric, food) and open a separate one for your paycheck and spend it how you like. Marriage doesn't mean slavery.

Or better yet, marry someone who agrees with, or doesn’t care about, your spending habits. Of course, hopefully you make financially sound decisions. If not, your wife keeping you in check isn’t the problem. You are the problem. :)

I definitely notice some with Discord open; the white pips next to servers indicating new messages are noticeably dimmer compared to on my previous monitor. The poor contrast is a little frustrating as well.

For $794 after tax though, it still seems like a remarkably good deal considering the alternatives are X34P in the same price range (weaker warranty and build quality) and the new LG34GK950G which costs twice as much. Is there anything I'm overlooking here?

Then again, for $800 I expect a monitor that is beyond "good enough" though I figure in a few years, I'll probably upgrade to whatever flavor of HDR10+GSync144Hz they release.

For the money, it’s not terrible but I would rather spend the extra money for the 34gk950 if the contrast and brightness is better. Ideally, I want to keep the monitor for 3+ years. I don’t think I would be happy for 3 years with the Alienware, unfortunately, whether it was for $800 or $400.

Anyone can post a pic or tell me how ps4 1080p games look on such a curved 1440p ultrawide?
I am not sure if I want curved ultrawide or flat or just a flat 27" 4k :p hz dont matter.

I would not recommend Ultra-wide for PS4 as it does NOT support ultra wide resolutions properly.

16:9 TV works best for displaying PS4 graphics. Ideally you'd get a nice 4k TV with HDR.

BTW PS4 Pro supports 4k fully, whereas the regular PS4 will be upscaled by your 4k TV.

Mine started flashing at 120Hz after about a week. It would stop after reboot and is solid so far at 115hz, but Amazon is sending me an advance exchange so hopefully it will be better. I have read a lot of people are having this issue and very few folks stating a replacement one was better. I really like the monitor and am tempted to keep it at 115hz, but have also read that it is the beginning of the end and will eventually flash at 115hz then 110hz, etc.

Missed the last sale. Should I consider this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Alien...699?_trksid=p2349526.m4383.l4275.c10#rpdCntId
@ $749?

Any comments on what the difference would be buying from Newegg vs buying from Dell. Not sure how this would work with "free returns" on ebay for dead pixels, etc?

Dell was unwilling to honor the previous deal or even come down on price

edit: Bought an LG 34GK950F-B instead
