As criticism of the site increases, and lawmakers start to clamp down on Google, Alphabet is shining a spotlight on their efforts to reign in YouTube's problematic content. According to a report by Reuters, YouTube took down 58 million videos and 224 million comments last quarter. That's over 7 videos and 30 comments a second, by my calculations. In an effort to filter the massive amount of content, Google now employs over 10,000 moderators aided by AI detection algorithms, but they still claim pre-screening every video is "unfeasible."

Nearly 80 percent of the channel takedowns related to spam uploads, YouTube said. About 13 percent concerned nudity, and 4.5 percent child safety. YouTube said users post billions of comments each quarter. It declined to disclose the overall number of accounts that have uploaded videos, but said removals were also a small fraction. In addition, about 7.8 million videos were removed individually for policy violations, in line with the previous quarter.

Logistically they have to involve automation, which turns out to be AI, otherwise YouTube would turn into a worse dumping ground than the Atari 2600.

How many of those were false copyright claims?

I mean it is ridiculous that they have a system of guilty until proven otherwise. And you don't even have any avenues to prove that you're not guilty unless you're a top partner.

i can only imagine what the EU thinks is extremist.
You should look up what Facebook did in certain countries they let all kinds of unchecked messaging by people spreading anything from hate fear lies about different segments of minorities.
In some countries people think what is on Facebook is the truth. I'm sure that the same sentiment applies to Youtube.

If you feel bored the segment by John Oliver Last week tonight about Facebook.

Youtube took that approach to save their asses from billions in copyright lawsuits from groups like the MPAA and RIAA. Its shitty and Youtube does a piss poor job of everything dealing with copyright claims, but its a great sign of just how fucked copyright laws are at times.

heres an idea- short of spam... just let everyone say whatever they want.

Hahaha in this political climate that would never fly. Too many people get offended at the smallest things and there would be a huge uproar if all forms of speech were left unfiltered on YouTube.

In reality it IS a tough job for the mods and they are probably very overworked and understaffed.

Yea that seems like a low number to me considering the amount of content uploaded and already existing plus dividing that into shifts and languages.

another idea- ignore the "REEEEEEEEE". I know it wont happen and being offended is now a profession... but i have to claw onto at least some distant form of reality.

If they removed every comment that started with "Who's watching in [XXXX]?" they'd save at least 3% of their bandwidth.

What I have been doing over the past few years is backing all the videos I like and re-upping them privately that way I never loose them. I did a half ass audit earlier this year and found that several of the videos I liked were taken down BUT ... my private copy was still up on Youtube.

This is not a thread about politics, keep it that way.
For the video's that aren't blatant copyright or of nudity/violence, this thread is %100 about politics.
Saying it isn't is just ostriching. Don't post the article if you are not willing to have free-speech!

Youtube has turned into a cesspool, but admittedly the interest algorithm is pretty good. These day my main feed is pretty on point. Now looking at youtube without logging in? Thats enough to make your eyes bleed.

If you can not post in this thread without following the rules then do not post in this thread. The end.
