Apple Announces Plans for $1 Billion Campus in Austin, Texas

I want to see one of these big tech companies build their billion dollar HQ in someplace like Idaho or Arkansas

They usually build it where they can find enough talent. Austin is a mini Silicon Valley. Granted I don’t know much about Idaho (potatoes) and Arkansas but I don’t think they have as many engineers as Austin does with UT right there.

Texas: the new California?
I swear to god. One by one, my Cali friends that work in IT are either moving, talking about moving, or have moved to Texas, especially the guys that work from home -- they brag how they're giving themselves an effective raise with the lack of state income tax, plus a cheaper mortgage on a bigger home.

This is exactly right. There are no goodguy businesses. "If they can open a new factory anywhere, how about in my XYZ town where the auto plant just closed and everyone needs a job". These companies give fuckall about local economies anywhere. It's just ruthless capitalism.

Case in point, Amazon's brilliant social engineering scheme of pretending to play "the bachelor" in search of one or two lucky cities to give the rose to with an HQ, when Bezos had already decided where the HQs were going before the con began. The whole operation was one big datamine to siphon proprietary info about local economies, TALENT POOLS, developments under construction etc. And Amazon got these cities to not just give it up willingly but swallow. Information is the new goldrush.

God I hope not, but they are moving here from Cali in DROVES. Sadly, they are bringing the same mentality that ruined the state they are in, rather than learning from their lessons.

The same mentality that makes California the fifth largest economy in the world? Such a fucked up mentality, that.

Do you think there is a reason no one wants California transplants? Couldn't be that the majority of them want to bring their BS policies with them. If California is such a parasite, I mean, paradise then why would anyone leave?

Myriad of reasons that have nothing to do with the BS spouted by haters. But that doesn't fit the narrative doesn't it? I don't agree with California so it must be a garbage state. Its people are liberals so it must be hell there. I have anecdotal evidence of people moving out so there must be an exodus of people from California.

Many of the rumors indicated that Research Triangle Park in North Carolina was going to be the location of the new Apple campus. Thankfully both Amazon and Apple have decided against it. The housing market here is already struggling to keep up with the existing economic boom in the area.

You snub what you think all Texans are like and then finish it off with "Texas is great"..

Maybe it's great BECAUSE of those people you have an issue with.
nope. Texas the land itselft is great. the weather sucks most of the time but im used to it. The closed minded christian conservatives that are a part of most of this state are the ones that ruin it for me.

Austin is not Texas
You do realize that every big city in texas votes blue and only the rural hick towns of west texas or the one street cities in between the big cites are the ones that vote red?

Not sure where you are from, but I don't know a single person like this, and it's been over a year since I have run into anyone like that. And most of the Christian people I know are very nice people, who are of the mindset "if they leave us alone, we leave them alone". Sure, you might find that in some of the smaller towns, but anywhere else they are going to be in the minority, and the smaller towns tend to keep to them selves, nothing wrong with that.

As far as thinking our way is right....If it's not, why do they all want to move here?
Im in Austin now, but grew up in a smaller east coast texas city. I have seen both extremes of both sides here, but the ones i am talking about run all the smaller cities. Hell we even still have some dry counties here wich makes no sense at all. And good ole hotwheels mcgee Greg Abbott said a Cannabis bill will never pass while he is in office and its mainly because it goes against his ideology. Same with turd cruz, he lets his religious beliefs make some of his decisions which should not happen at all. Those are the types of people i dont like here and we have a ton of them.

As opposed to the pedophile loving left who have young boys dressed as little women twerking in "their" parades and their constituents openly sh1tting in the streets. So open minded. You flat-earthers of politics ruin every location you swarm to then migrate to another location like locusts. Once the tech bubble and academic industrial complex bubbles burst you will be relegated back into the fringe shadows again.
What in the fuck are you talking about lol. You have been listening to too much Alex Jones. This is the shit im talking about, these crazy loonies that have these ridiculous stories. And i am not even left or antifa or whatever the hell. I stay out of politics for the most part and dont even vote

Texas is not what you think. The large cities: Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, and Corpus Christi are Democratic (Blue) cities. Ted Cruz (Senate) lost all those cities plus some of their suburbs in the last election. Central and Northern Rural and small cities are towns are still Red that why he squeaked out a win. That's the projection in the next 5-10 years that the state will turn Blue in the political arena.

I'm from Florida and visited San Francisco this past summer with my good friend and girlfriend. We went all over the Bay Area including Big Sur and Napa Valley. When we got back his parents only question was "How did you manage to have a good time with that looney governor and crazy liberals?"

These people only get off via mental masturbation. They never leave the 20 miles radius of their house and seemingly don't get joy from anything.

The highest economic growth, what, five years running? Yes, I want that.
Strong consumer protections? Yes, I want that.
Environmental protections? Yes, I want that.
Ability to pass laws ourselves through ballot initiates? Yes, I want that.
Non-partisan re-districting? Yes, I want that.
How about instead of bashing, you mention something you dislike about the state.
And before you say "things are more expensive", that's a natural consequence of people making more money. That's how Capitalism works; more money leads to inflation as business can sell the same amount of goods at a higher cost. That's why most economically wealthy states tend to have more public services, since that's the only mechanism to provide critical services to those not at the top of the economic ladder.

Add to that the highest poverty rate in the country (when adjusted for the cost of living)
Most people on welfare & food stamps.
One of the highest high school drop out rates in the country.
Highest gas prices and some of the highest electric prices in the country.

Ability to pass laws ourselves through ballot initiates? Not any more. If left doesn't like it, they will write a confusing/false description on the ballot, and if it still passes they will find a leftist judge to throw it out.

Things are ok if you bought your home years ago and have a good job.
If you rent or don't have the education to land a 6 figure job, you are going to be one paycheck away living in your car.

Same thing happened to California. Started in the big cities and spread like a cancer across the state.
Orange Country used to be solid republican, now there are no more republicans from orange county left in congress.
Of course the Democrats ran as more conservative than the Republicans, so we'll see what happen in 2 years after people see how they vote.

Gun control - Um, no.... just no. Go back to your safe space that is California.

Meanwhile, we just hit a record for gun deaths in a year.

Sanctuary cities <<< "Ability to pass laws ourselves through ballot initiates? Yes, I want that." <<< I bet you do, as that is exactly how Sanctuaries are created.
Immigration policies that encourage caravans

Immigration is the fastest way to grow the economy. More people with more money is a good thing. And I'd like to point out that it's conservatives that have long blocked any meaningful reform of the immigration system.

Taxes that support failing policy - they're kicking around taxing text messaging, FFS.

Examples of said policy?

Governments Embracing (Anti-Fa, metoo#, ect) Movements

Yes, heaven forbid governments embrace equality.

Housing costs <<< San Francisco, WTH?

As I mentioned already, that's a natural consequence of rising incomes. Housing is still historically cheap though; in the 80's it cost about 10x your yearly salary to purchase a house. Houses are expensive, but not to that degree.

Highest economic growth for 5 years? Not really. Try a 10 year view. It's easy to have a great run when you're just getting back to pre-recession days..

That's because it's only recently Republicans were driven out of power; literally the year Republicans lost control is when California growth picked up.

Add to that the highest poverty rate in the country (when adjusted for the cost of living)

That's an unfortunate consequence of economic growth in a Capitalistic economy; economic growth drives inflation that puts those at the bottom of the barrel farther back. And no one's really found an adequate solution yet.

Most people on welfare & food stamps.

Funny you went from percentages to actual on this point...

One of the highest high school drop out rates in the country.

Driven by the more rural California communities. City drop out rates are in-line with what you'd expect.

Highest gas prices and some of the highest electric prices in the country.

Byproduct of wealth. More money = more inflation = higher costs.

Ability to pass laws ourselves through ballot initiates? Not any more. If left doesn't like it, they will write a confusing/false description on the ballot, and if it still passes they will find a leftist judge to throw it out.

Now your just being a crybaby.

Things are ok if you bought your home years ago and have a good job.
If you rent or don't have the education to land a 6 figure job, you are going to be one paycheck away living in your car.

That's where those rural communities are for; you don't setup in a city if you aren't making 6-figures.

Austin is not Texas

It's the capitol of Texas and I'm pretty sure that makes it Texas. Austin is nothing close to being as liberal as Denver or Boulder.

I'm not even going to try and clean this one up. A general warning for all involved though, No politics outside of the soapbox. Use the report post feature and don't join in. There aren't any more free passes for this kind of behavior in the general forums.
