So due to the events discussed here:

I've had to move my overly complex system upstairs, into the master bedroom (I work from home). No idea how long repairs are going to take.

The cable management and assembly on a 4 monitor arm, dual system, electric desk with 7.1 surround sound is kind of ridiculous and it took a good part of a day to take it all apart (the desk won't fit through the door unless completely disassembled) and move it upstairs. I don't want to setup everything and then move it back in a few months.

I have my PC setup with one monitor and just headphones and I'm finding that I really don't miss surround (most the games I play work best on one screen) and even with work, I can get by with one monitor.

What I'd like is either a nice big 32" or even 43" 4K or 38" 32:10 for the main screen (mostly for work) and then my 24" 165Hz G-Sync display for gaming.

The problem is, I hate side by side monitors - a major reason I've stayed with 3 is so that I don't have a bezel in the center.

I'm thinking I could do the big monitor in the center, the 24" off to the side, but on an arm that lets it move to the center (in front of the bigger, slower monitor) for gaming.

As much as I like the challenge of setting up a really complex system, I think I've had my fill and need to get back to something simpler and more essential.

Recommendations on a good 4K (or near 4K) monitor that does well in most areas? I'd possibly play non fps games on it, as well as watch video and do document work. These kinds of displays are outside of my normal interest.

I actually had several 6 or more monitor setups of various layouts and varieties through the years. I more recently settled on just 2 monitors. A center focused 35" 3440x1440 curved ultra wide with a right side flanking 32" 1440p when I need more windows up. I am the same way that i have to have a center focus and the ultra wide does that perfect while splitting well into more square screens.

I had triple 27" Surround for a while. One of the monitors died, so I sold them and got a single 34" ultrawide and I'm happy with the switch.

Surround had too many longstanding issues that seem will never be fixed. Just basic stuff on the Windows desktop still doesn't work reliably (start menu or alt-tab showing on wrong monitor, etc.).

Been with this ultrawide for like 1 month so far and I haven't had any issues. Games still play great and 21:9 is immersive enough, especially without bezels (also the side screens aren't wasted and performance is much improved).

Definitely check out 21:9, I think you might like it.

I never had any serious issues with surround but the games that run best in surround are the ones I rarely play.

My main issue with 21:9 is that in most games, the HUD elements at the edge of the screen are much harder to glance at compared to 16:9. It seems like a small distance but it frequently makes me fail to notice important info.

My ideal would be a 32:9 gsync panel but those dont yet exist and the HUD would need to be centered, not off to the edges.

I think the reign of the 100hz 34" ultrawide is nearing an end and we will soon see more interesting options. I am content to wait.
