BioWare's new IP: Anthem

yea im really diggin it so far. Love the story and banter with it. Control will take some getting use to though but I am really liking it

Toss me an invite for any expeditions or feel free to join me once you get to that point.

The only thing puzzling about it was the awful flight controls. No autocenter? Really? I scoured the options, but nope.

Hopefully the flight controls are something they tweak. I wonder if they feel better on a controller.

Yeah honestly I switched over to my Xbox controller when flying and it's MUCH better than using the mouse which in it's current state I consider to be almost unusable - it's way too sensitive, you basically need a totally separate mouse sensitivity for the flight mode.

yea the flight controls on the mouse are fucking terrible. They need to make that transition a lot smoother, really dont want to switch between a controller and my m/kb everytime ya know?

I know it wasn't it's purpose but this session haven't aroused my appetite for the game at all. Two months flies by quickly. I don't know how much I Can say without breaking NDA, so it's better I don't say anything at all.

reading reports that people who break NDA are getting banned from origin and their whole library goes bye bye.

Got to play for a whole 10 minutes before the servers shut down for the day. These testing times aren't practical for anyone living outside the US.

I was stuck in an endless "trying to connect" loop until I ran the desktop shortcut as administrator then it worked. Hope this helps someone for tomorrow.

That was fucking awful. Jetpack is fun, everything else... Wow, bad.
Worst game I've played in a long time, yes, worse than ME:A.

It's just an alpha so we'll see what happens.

edit // Is there somewhere to report feedback? Because I found a metric shit ton of bugs and other issues I'd like to report for launch.

This is ten times worse then loot boxes. You almost have to expect people to stream the game.

It's definitely not an alpha two months before release.

Actually, nevermind, that might be perfectly accurate in today's industry.

BS, you have to expect them to break the contract they accepted? I'd have taken more than their game library. Kids these days think they can get away with anything.

Anybody actually got to play any mission? The matchmaking has literally not been able to get me squadmates.

And ya, the flying and swimming controls are sh!tty. And some pretty bad rubberbanding in certain areas.

anyone had the game load and you have no head and primary weapon?
there was no body inside as you can see down the neck behind the character. it was pretty funny looking.

Matchmaking didn't work. I waited a few minutes then went ahead solo. But the end of the mission was too hard alone, so I couldn't complete it.

I still have my eye on this. I think the Dragon Age: Dread Wolf reveal was just to appease the long term fans so as to optimize Anthem's launch (EA has done this before), but I'm not judging anything until I've played a demo & the game is out with numerous reviews.

I want to hope for this game, but only time will tell.

I got into a mission with 3 other people but as I was changing my voip settings it bumped back to an infinite load screen.

I was able to do the mission with 3 other random people through matchmaking Saturday at the start of the second session. Was pretty quick to get matched.

I like it a lot. Feels like they took the concept of Mass Effect: Andromeda and expanded it to an open world while adding the ability to fly. Gunplay is really snappy and satisfying. They just need to tweak enemy density and I'm sure there will be a more robust system in place for world events at launch. I believe this is a buy for me.

Same here - I didn't get to play a whole lot (probably like 3 hours) but I enjoyed it.

I think the exact opposite. Basic mmo mission structure, uninteresting.

There was hardly enough content available to come to this conclusion. Even if the gameplay systems are formulaic I think the gameplay mechanics we sampled more than make up for that. But I've always loved the Mass Effect multiplayer.

This game is garbage and it's going to get decimated at launch in its current state.
Even if they fix every bug and other issue I had with it, the core gameplay is trash. I'd go into intricate detail about every single thing that makes this game horrible, but I want to at least attempt to avoid violating the NDA even though I probably already did.

Anthem is to ME:Andromeda as FO76 is to FO4. Take it off your list, cancel your pre-orders if you got 'em.

Let me try and ask this in a way where, again, I don't want to get into trouble.

The core gameplay needed to be more than ME:A's for gunplay to base a game like this off of it IMO and probably a decent amount of others. You (and even some others in this thread) are suggesting something even less than that. Do I read you correctly?

I saw one poster mention story and narrative. It's hard to imagine how this kind of structure allows for it but if there is a way to elaborate on that I'd love to learn more.

I do see the expected split opinions in here.

If you and some others end up being correct it's going to be the least surprising news in gaming in quite some time for me at least.

Can people make any comments as to how this compares to the Destiny games without violating NDA because that's the big specter this is being compared to nonstop. Even some of the art design is flat out derivative.

By the time another Dragon Age ever gets released... does anyone really think that's going to even remotely resemble a traditional RPG of sorts as opposed to a pay service MMO-ish type hybrid like Anthem, Destiny, etc.?

This is all EA. The name Bioware has little to no meaning.

I dare them to prove me wrong.

Didn't play it. Was not part of the NDA. Will agree with taintedsquirrels assement. Ea just doesn't get it. They can't make a good rpgish game without ruining what makes them great.

Too many corporate Cooks in the kitchen.

Sorry. I meant crooks.

Mass Effect meets Destiny is the perfect way to describe it, in my opinion. Gunplay is much improved over ME, though. It feels like a proper third person shooter in that regard. The other mechanics clearly used ME as a base to start from, though. The jumping is exactly like Andromeda, for example, and the world structure is also very similar but on a much larger scale.

There was very little narrative presented. We got hints as to what Anthem actually refers to. Don't want to get anymore specific than that other than to reiterate that there was very little content to come to any sort of conclusion as to the overall gameplay loop and story.

Come back after the demo comes out on February 1 and tell us what you think.

I think I'll be playing Metro Exodus in February and Sekiro/Sinking City in March. Anthem looks like a possible bargain bin buy during a draught.

That *might* go to the theory of assets that should have gone to finish ME:A going to this instead. ;) Some of the videos and artwork really look like it, too, IMO.

I know this wasn't directed at me but: I'll definitely hit the demo when available.

One of the criticisms that's been mentioned numerous times at least leading up to this was the idea that despite the gorgeous looking Frostbite graphics that the game felt like it was "claustrophobic" "tight" and even "corridor-ish."

Was that yours and others takeaway coming off this?
