Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

I'm far enough along for the cultists stuff so that isn't an issue. With mercs I usually try to kill them whenever possible because they have a chance at dropping better loot. I am disappointed to hear that some sets are locked behind Oikos or Helix credits. I just won't ever get those I guess.

I'd probably have maybe 8 or 9 additional points if I didn't luck into some +fire dmg gear. I believe I'm at some +105% fire damage so it was worth it to dump the five points I could into it.
A couple of questions as I generally play isometric ARPGs.

Can you play as a ranged character only? It looks like there is a ranged skill tree based on screen shots above.
Are you able to respec?

I think you could try to be ranged only but it would very hard arrows are limited in what you can carry. You can craft them whenever.

I think you can respec by paying drachme.

You can certainly focused on ranged, but the game isn't really set up to only do one thing or another exclusively. You can certainly play to your preference though, but its wise to have skills from, and stats/gear for, all of the 3 general "styles". There are multiple "skill trees" but they're not really trees in most cases - there are only a few abilities that require a previous one;occasionaly there are a few that require a global character level requirement. More importantly is that each ability has 3 levels, but you can only upgrade to the 2nd or 3rd tier if certain conditions are met such as upgrading your Spear of Leonidas. Its more about selecting which you wish to use and the big thing is that you only have so many "active" ability slots. At current there are 4 Ranged and 8 (two trays of 4 each) for melee. Thus, you try to pick what is complimentary to your particular needs and build a balanced deck to allow you to handle all situations. Note that you can spec into Passives (aka those that don't take up a slot) no matter what - and should!

Respec is built into the game and it is cheap (in game currency) to do so. Up until some recent changes/patches, it wasn't possible to max out every ability at max level, but now I think you may be able to do so , plus the new "mastery" passive progression system which is a separate tree of its own that doesn't show up until you reach Level 50. For much of the game, it seems that players will respec because they want to use the points on their active abilities of choice that "fit" on their deck, plus the passives.

Hope this helps!

My character was primarily ranged. All battles, everything. You pretty much have to choose either warrior or ranged. There is also assassin but pretty much most of their skills get locked out when in combat and combat will happen often, like domination battles. Ranged works pretty well. Whatever you choose you pick gear that complements that class. Preferably every single trait does something to add to damage

You might have to get on their case directly and see if anything happens. I figure it's a small enough issue that not enough people have brought it up.

killed the minotaur yesterday at lvl 39.

I must say, fire damage buffs + the heal skills + fire + buffs that give adrenaline back with damage, is pretty over powered. I was just lighting it on fire running around, letting it burn, doing it again, over and over and over.

that and you can troll the AI pretty hard. Been killing mercs that are 5+ lvls higher than me by just getting on a building they won't/cant climb, and range killing them while they try to hurl spears, bombs, arrows at me and can't hit me. they just stand there and keep taking hits.

did they patch the game overnight?

Went to play today, it reset itself to window borderless. reset back to full screen and it runs absolutely terrible now. its a stuttering mess all the time. It was a not like this yesterday or any day before. Its borderline unplayable since the FPS are 50/20/50/20/50/20..... just up and down all the time.

I noticed that as well, so I went to make sure that the SpecialK mod was still installed (which it is). No idea why the performance is so awful.

I'm on my 2nd playthrough as full Hunter, I haven't used a melee attack in a long time. Arrows can be used in both combat AND stealth, making it the most useful build. You can also combine arrows + sneak attack to compensate for Assassination Damage without breaking stealth.

The new DLC forces your character to partake in a straight romance and people seem to be very upset about it.

I assume it is dependent on the gender of your character if it will be a straight romance?

There was one like that already in the game. IMO it doesn't matter if it is straight or not, you shouldn't be forced into any romance.

From the sound of that video, it seems like Legacy of the First Blade could be one of the most content-heavy expansions I've seen in a long while. Glad to see its development!

Can you explain a little more about this? Arrows + Sneak Attack damage multiplier? What particular skills are you using for this? I was under the impression that even arrows shot from stealth did not stack up to the kind of damage from Assassination abilities, especially Critical Assassination. I was not aware there was any particular damage bonus from a stealth attack via arrow? If there is, what are the parameters - is damage multiplied on first attack only, or on all attacks where the enemy is yet to discover you?

it is not actually combining, arrows will do hunter damage, then sneak attacks will do assassin damage, but as long as you kill the targets neither will break stealth. And some of the hunter attacks can oneshot, even through walls.

You can shoot an enemy and then immediately stab or rush assassinate without breaking stealth.
For polemarchs/mercs, where an assassination character would use Crit Assassinate, you can use Devastating Shot followed by a stab and you will actually gain adrenaline instead of spending it.

Assassination damage by itself does more damage than Hunter damage -- meaning, a single sneak stab does more damage than a single arrow.
If you combine arrow + stab it will do even more damage. The benefit of going Hunter, then, is that it is both a ranged stealth attack and it also works in combat.

So you can shoot and then stab right away without breaking stealth? I'm guessing you mean at near point-blank range from within a hiding spot? So the shot doesn't automatically break that state that would lock out Rush Assassination? When you say stab, is that a standard assassination or is it possible to use a Hunter ability from stealth and then Critically Assassinate? I'm guessing that the shot, if it only wounds the enemy triggers their "interest" even i they can't see you, but even if they do should you have one of the Hunter abilities for slowed time/delay on spot, you can still get the assassination in? You mention using Devastating Shot, do you find it preferable to Predator Shot?

I don't know if the new cap has changed things... but as a hunter I would go to the gate and start shooting people. have all the mercenaries and reinforcements come. this is on normal difficulties. maybe you can't do it on higher difficulties. stealth is good and all that but you may not need it as much once you hit the cap and have good gear

Yes.

It works from anywhere assassination works, as long as you're not already detected. Up close, far away (with rush assassination), or behind the target.

You can follow up the shot with Rush Assassination, it even works when you're standing right next to them.

Crit Assassinate works.

I'm guessing that the shot, if it only wounds the enemy triggers their "interest" even i they can't see you, but even if they do should you have one of the Hunter abilities for slowed time/delay on spot, you can still get the assassination in?
The "slow-mo" ability doesn't work after you shoot them with the arrow because they know you're there. It only works for 'confused' enemies.
You can hit them twice before you get detected, either with 2 arrow attacks or 1 arrow + 1 assassination attack, but after that you're out of time and get detected.

You mention using Devastating Shot, do you find it preferable to Predator Shot?
Devastating Shot does more damage and it's a pain in the ass to aim Predator up close.

really wish I could downgrade the game right now but I know that won't work. Whatever they did in 1.1.1 or 1.0.1 or whatever just completely fucked the game for me. It runs like total garbage now. The FPS graph is amazing to see in game. just this massive jagged line up and down from 60 to 0 and back like over and over. I mean the FPS are so bad I can barely fight now because with the game performance being all over, trying to block or defend or dart away just doesn't work like 50% of the time because the button presses are just not registering. It was SO SMOOTH and fun before.

even lowing the graphics does nothing to fix this. I was mostly high settings at 1080p. I tried everything on low and still ran like garbage.

I fell back into my Destiny hole but it's a shame to hear about the performance. The game already takes a lot to run at 3440x1440 so I can't imagine how much more I have to turn settings down.

I haven't played it in a few days but last time I played, the benchmark got me 70 fps with a 3440x1440 monitor. I'm scared to check it now.

If I see the FPS below 60 in any game with my 2080 ti, I'll flip.

Average frames maybe.. The problem is the spikes. Sometimes the frame drops don't even seem to make sense. Crazy weird input lag, abilities not registering at all sometimes, micro stutter, weird delays in movement.. ugh it's a mess right now (for me at least). Have tried adjusting as many settings as possible and it didn't really seem to matter what setting I'm on. Hopefully it will get sorted out soon. Bought the game on black friday, have put about 40 hours into the game and I'm only like level 24-26. But have really enjoyed the game so far.

yea it does it and CPU/GPU utilization for me is never above 75%. nothing is maxing at 100% just it just tanks.

Looks like the game is 1/3 off ($40.19) until Friday. That's a pretty solid deal and it's cheaper than both CDKeys and Green Man.

Does the season pass include all of the DLC? There is no need to get Legacy of the First Blade by itself, correct?

Are any of the gear packs or naval packs in the Deluxe and Ultimate versions worthwhile?

I am looking at the different versions on Steam.

Yep, season pass has everything except for 99% of the helix purchases in the store

How "required" is the DLC for this game? Is someone seriously missing out if they only buy the base game? I have a pile of other stuff I'm playing, so I probably won't end up getting it for a little while.

The only DLC released is the 1st chapter of the 1st DLC which is only a few hours long.
They release 1 chapter every few weeks, it should all be done sometime in the spring.

I figure the discount will probably kick back in for the Steam Xmas sale. If I buy the game now, it won't get touched for at least a month and by then the discount could be even deeper. CDKeys hasn't really had anything good for this game, so they're due for sale as well.

The game is being packed with some Blue Yeti mic right now. Not that I would do the leg work in that situation to get rid of the mic to get a game.

GMG has had some nice things going for it, too. I'd keep all options on the radar and see how you feel about it. The value is crazy. I'm easily going to get at least 200 hours out of this thing.

The game has tons of useless trash content so you don't really need DLC to have stuff to do. That is one of the flaws of the game. the world is too big and there are way too many meaningless locations.

The last game in Egypt was like that. It was so big that about 1/2 the world was pointless. Open world games should probably all keep that in mind. If there's no benefit to exploring an area, there's no point to having it.

That's definitely what I've struggled with. There's so much useless side content if only to make the world more "alive" but in the end it just makes it so monotonous. Unless they've got an ! mark then I kind of didn't care at a point.

Chickens are the deadliest animal in Odyssey, whereas Sharks are the least deadly. Weird ass game sometimes.

Picked it up on the Steam sale for $40. Let’s see if I like it. The added progression/RPG elements are enticing to me.
